Fall Chores
October is just a couple of days away, and my part of Idaho is supposed to get freezing temperatures tonight and for the next few nights. Yesterday I got the yard mowed before the rain hit. Got a super deal on a new Murray lawnmower with large back wheels last week at Wal-Mart. Regularly 184.00, it was on clearance for…

Fresh Lavender
I've always grown the culinary herbs and spices every year. But this Spring I put in three lavender bushes also and they have did remarkably well. I had a whole total 6 blooms in June on all three bushes so I just figured next year I will be able to do something with them. I should be able to harvest a few buds then. Well…

I'm A Bug Magnet
This may sound ridiculous but when I go outside there might as well be a sign on me saying "Lunch Buffett For All Bugs". I've been this way since childhood. Now I'm at the other end of the age scale - already well into retirement. And I still fight with the bugs every single time I step out the door. Anyone else may get…

Mosquito Deterrents
The news has continuous warnings about the difficulties with this insect now. For us in the areas where it is prevalent, we do need to be conscious of all the difficulties the mosquito can conjure up for us humans and our animals too. But myself, I refuse to use all those cans and bottles of spray-on chemicals. I'm not…

Ants? . . . ANTS!!!
I may be a weird one, but I hate killing anything... including even ants. So, when I noticed a couple of ants in my kitchen the other day, I didn't think much of them. I just flicked them outside, cleaned up everything from dinner, and went to bed thinking all was well.. I woke to the lovely sight of hundreds and, then the…

Fire Plan
In a large majority of my state, New South Wales (Australia)we are experiencing unprecedented drought. Coming into our warmer seasons, already this time of year we have had a scary start to the bushfire season. Before the pressure is upon you, do you have a plan? You need to be very honest about how you would feel fighting…

Repelling mice?
I recently came across a discussion about wintering RVs in which people suggested using either balsam fir oil or peppermint oil to keep mice out of the space. Has anyone used either of these oils successfully as a rodent repellent? What other natural means have you used successfully to keep mice away?

Canine Green Bean Diet???
Has anyone ever used this diet for their dog? My Layla Blu (pit bull) has gotten a bit on the heavy side. She's an indoor dog, though outside several times daily and takes advantage of the time running about here and there. The idea of replacing a portion of a dog's normal diet with green beans (at least for a short term)…

No smelly beast, & quite clean, so how often do you bathe?
Before you assume this as another crazy subject (of mine), read here: https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2016/06/i-stopped-showering-and-life-continued/486314/ Personally, I still wash my hands often to prevent communicable diseases. And too once weekly shampoo to clean up oily secretions from sweat & sebaceous…
