fermenting cranberries
Has anyone here made fermented cranberries in honey? I have some cranberries. They are not rotten but softer than some you buy. I suppose they would be a lot like those you take out of the freezer and unthaw. I was wondering if they would be ok to ferment? Since I have them I suppose its worth the gamble. Otherwise they…

The unexpected cook-a-thon
This morning I knew I should do a roast that was in the refrigerator. My plan was a roast with veggies. The left overs would make two more meals and then finally a veggie soup. I seared the meat. then realized I was running behind in time so set the roast aside to finish when I returned home. Before I left I opened the…

avocados
I just just started using avocados. They are good for you in so many ways. But being a new item I do not know many ways to use it. How do you all prepare an avocado or incorporate it into recipes and meals?

Once A Month Cooking
Yesterday was Once A Month Cooking Day here at the Vermont homestead. We don't literally do it once a month. It's actually more like once every two and a half months. Who likes Goat curry?
These days we eat little red meat. It has to be organic and grass fed before we touch it. A little while back, I found some organic goat meat (bone in) at a local butcher. Yesterday I made a massaman goat curry, with carrots, choko and tomatoes from our garden. Left it a day and reheated tonight. Got to say it was yummo!

Beef liver stir-fry
I am eating this right now. I've made it several times before and it's always delicious. I do add additional vegetables(broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, green chiles, etc.), use arrowroot instead of cornstarch to thicken, a few grinds of black pepper instead of whole peppercorns, and follow a different cooking procedure. I…

What is a quality juicer that is not too expensive?
There may be a grand selection of juicers yet I’ve heard Ocean Robbins discuss these and how wonderful they are. I would be juicing carrots, celery, lots of veggies. Then pineapple, apple, kiwi. Even nuts and seeds.

plant "butter"
One of my daughters has gone dairy free as her doctor recommended. It does seem to be helping with her chronic congestion, but cooking is a challenge since I'm a huge believer in butter! For savory uses, I'm pretty much set . I use bacon grease, lard, duck fat (yum!) and olive oil. I use coconut or avocado oil in baking.…

upping my breakfast game
I'm trying new breakfast recipes lately. I really liked the quinoa breakfast that @RustBeltCowgirl posted last month. Today I made this https://downshiftology.com/recipes/shakshuka/ It was different and very good!
