Hi there and my TGN t-shirt has the desired affect.
I've been unusually quiet for a few weeks due to internet supply issues. That is currently being worked out and hopefully will be resolved today. Last week I had the chance to visit come dear friends up the coast a bit and on my return journey, stopped at a well known seafood co-op and purchased some quality fish. While I…

What Did You Learn This Year From Your Garden?
Two years ago this question was asked and it made some of reflect on lessons learned, so I thought with COVID and other things going on to see if anyone learned anything new. For me I was laid off in June so I have had the luxury of working in my garden this summer and I took advantage by trying a lot of starting new seeds…

Fun or Interesting Animal Stories
Many of us have animals so I thought it would be fun to read about some of their antics. I will start with one about the love between my Great Pyrenees dog and Spice his cat. The dog is confined to about 10 acres but somehow he kept getting out roaming the neighborhood. So until we could find out how, he was imprisoned on…

TIME MANAGEMENT TIPS

What is a farm/homestead to you?
I just got back from a trip to my cousins farm. They have a dairy farm with big barns, piles of fermenting silage, and lots of rolling hills carpeted with pasture, some lush, some scrappy. But what I love the most is that there are cats and dogs everywhere! In my mind, a farm or homestead is not the same without dogs…

Transplanted: Annnd they're off!
I went camping this weekend and before I left I replanted a bunch of baby plants. Don't they look happy? The big tall ones are bean plants, there's also quite a few pepper, lettuce, spinach, tomato and kale plants. More babies plus my daughter's "fuzzy" plant. ☺

Put Your Thinking Caps on - I need some help please :)
So, as my likely redundancy looms near, I am looking at starting up my natural fertility management business again. I am stuck for a suitable name - does anyone have any cool ideas?

I put a deposit on a bicycle today
Thankful to be able to put a deposit on a bicycle! It's a rough time to be in the market for a bike. All of the electric bikes that I could stretch to afford are on long back-order. But the local bike shop had a second hand Trek ladies bike for an excellent price. (I've been doing my homework.) A very nice fellow took a…

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF THE DAY?
What is you favorite part of the day? For me, it's really hard to choose! I love morning, when the air is so fresh and cool, I love late afternoon, and I also love summer evenings! What is your pick? P.S. OR, JUST SAY WHY YOU LIKE THE WHOLE DAY!!!!!!!

Reminder to pay attention to things around you!
I was planting a few potted plants that we had picked up cheap maybe a month ago. I was planting at the edge of a large flower bed 20' x 60' that I don't go into after things start growing unless it's very cold days, because we have copperhead snakes. If I can't see my feet they don't go there. But I'm at the edge, so good…

Help! The choice I wasnt prepared for...
So, I've had a hose for years, untill I forgot to dehydrate before winter. Of course it was frozen, meaning broken. Currently I can water my garden without a hose, but it's not that convenient as before. When I came to a local gardening shop I realised, that the choice is big and I don't know ANYTHIN about hoses Is there…

"OK"? "Just OK"?
In another discussion @KimWilson posted; "I do have a question of opinions: My mother-in-law (with her perpetual cheery attitude) always calls and asks how I am. If I say that I am "OK", she then comments, "OK"? "Just OK"? This happens most every time I talk to her, and, quite frankly, I don't know how to answer her. I do…

Once upon a time I planted....
One time I planted a nasturtium seed and a sunflower grew. That was weird. 😵 I know it was a nasturtium- the seeds are kinda unmistakable- as are sunflowers. Maybe one of my boys played a trick on me. No one owned up to it.😳 It would have been ok except that I had never seen nasturtiums before so I was telling my friend…

Favorite Season or Seasons
Summer time is usually the time when hot weather vegetables and fruits thrive, but to me it also the time when it can be too hot to work outside except early morning/later in the afternoon plus I find it harder to keep the plants watered since I do not have an irrigation system on a timer. So to me summer is my least…

Odd thoughts on books and knowledge
It hit me the other night that that the novel is such a modern invention. There were very few examples of novels before 1800... and most were written after 1900. For 100 years or so, the novel (followed by film) was the driving force in western culture. Authors became celebrities. The pursuit of writing "The Great American…

Ahhhh, the weekend!
Sorry I haven't been around much this week. My job is publishing regional magazines. Any perceived glamour in being a self employed publisher goes right out the window when it is time to pick up and distribute. I drive my 1989 Chevy 1500 hours up the interstate tot he printer, load on about 5,000 lbs of magazines at a…

I saw my first tornado today
I may have seen it a bit closer, as our area was the first one warned, and the rotation was supposedly coming our way & 7 miles away...so we were in the basement. I figured with the noise of constant thunder & heavy rain, we were best off in the basement. My...it was so humid outside. It's better now. It touched down south…

If I had all the money I needed, I still need help with the 'where' part..
It is my goal and has been for the last 3 years to move to the country out of town.. I welcome and ask for input about the different states, good and bad, and in between to help me consider where I might want to re locate to. I love fishing, the country, want to eventually be off grid as much as I can, love warm to hot…

Any expatriates out there? Looking for advice on migrating to Canada. Building a homestead.
TGN has such a diverse community from around the world. Hoping maybe some of you can lend us your ear and give us advice on our goal of leaving America to migrate and establish a homestead elsewhere. Are you an expatriate? What has been your experience? Which are some of the most welcoming countries to take up residence…

I got my hunting and fishing permits today!
I had to wait 6 months to get a resident Idaho permit, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that moving back to Missouri only required 30 days of residency! For 53.00, I got my resident fishing, trout, small game, migratory bird, and fall turkey tags. I'm being optimistic that I'll get to use all of them this fall, but at…

What is your favorite summer flower to grow?
I have several favorite flowers but Black-eyed Susan's are filling most of my flower bed in my front yard right now and I love driving up and seeing them. My across the street neighbor tells me how much she likes seeing them as well. I love them because they come back every year and because they bloom and flower for a long…

Isaias.. is you is or is you ain't a hurricane, baby?
Looks like this one won't pan out out be much more than a strong breeze and an maybe 3-5 inches of rain. I've seen no panic shopping, hoarding, etc... Boy howdy though, the folks on the news have sure turned themselves inside out "virtue signaling" trying to come up with the most outrageously stupid pronunciation of the…
