Is anyone interested in DIY jewelry?
I have some expertise in making jewelry. Is anyone interested? I am including a photo of my latest project (if my first photo upload works.)

So...this week I hire a dandelion wine taste tester. She wears bandit mask to work! Do I fire her?
My new employee explains it's to protect her from the corona virus. What can I say? Looking at those dreamy eyes highlighted and made all the more hazel by her pink bandit mask that doubles as a bandanna. I find I can't turn her away. Just yet... Anyhow she promises a full report on the wine by end of this week. Very…

Can a crock be repaired?
I started to do a bunch of cabbage for sauerkraut and realized there is a hole in the bottom of my mother’s old crock. Is there any way to fix it and it still be suitable for food?

uses for newspaper
My father-in-law got my husband a subscription to the newspaper for his birthday. We haven't had a printed newspaper around here for years, but I'm loving it! Since paper towels are hard to come by, we have started filling a basket with rectangles cut from the paper. It works pretty well for small spills. I'm thinking that…

Dry shampoo
I have fairly fine and fairly thick hair with a rather oily scalp. We also have very hard water. This all adds up to greasy hair that does not easily wash clean. I've tried several natural shampoos as well has shampoo alternatives( baking soda and vinegar; soap nuts and citrus peel.) I finally found a shampoo that works…

What to do with my empty dry goods containers .....
My pantry is filled with air tight dry goods containers. I have found, though, that between bulk restocking, I accumulate multiple empty containers waiting to be refilled. I don't have a lot of available storage space space for the 'empties'. Any ideas?

Face Cream from Lard or Tallow?
A friend of mine has a nickel allergy and can't use nut or seed oils on her skin without itching unbearably. She has been using petroleum oil based products to prevent the itch. I thought maybe a lard or tallow based product would work for her, but I've never done it myself. Does anyone here have any experience with this…

Rabbit skins - Tanning
A large percent of the reason I keep rabbits is for their fur. I keep three varieties for this reason. Of course, their meat is wonderful and their urine and poop are important in our garden. When I harvest rabbits, I make sure the skins are promptly frozen so that I can tan them later. I've been tanning them for 4-5 years…

Another Use For A Boot Tray
I'm building a bookcase with a couple of shelves set with grow lights for starting seeds and wanted a sturdy tray to protect the wood from water damage. Realized a rubber boot tray, about 12 x 28 inches-1 inch deep with ridges, would be perfect. Picked up a couple more for $4.00 at Dollar General.

Time to make your bed!
Literally! So, I am wondering, who has made their own mattress or other form of bed? It's been on my long list of things to try for several years, due to concerns about flame retardents and other nasties in commercial mattresses. You can buy wool mattresses that are naturally flame retardent, but they are pretty pricey-…

Mason Jar light fixture
Winter always has me dressing up inside my home a bit more. This year I’m focused on the ceilings. I replaced a couple light fixtures but I wanted something special in my dining room. So I had some left over styrofoam (I know it’s bad but I got them at a second hand place and I’m slowly using them all so at least they…

shelling sunflower seeds
Does anyone have a reasonably efficient means of shelling sunflower seeds? We actually outsmarted the squirrels this year and got a decent crop of seeds, but they are laborious to shell. My granddaughter and I tried running some through my oat flaker to see if that would squish them just enough to loosen the shells, but…

Lap robe from a destroyed sweater
Another project from a felted sweater. I lucked into one of those hip length Irish wool sweaters (Aran Crafts label) that was so moth-eaten that I could not repair it. So I felted it, and cut out the best sections to make this lap robe. I hand sewed the 3 pieces into a square, and used red quilt binding to cover the seams.…

How do you landscape a storm shelter?
In August, 2017 we purchased 6 acres with a home that has a concrete storm shelter in the front yard. It is such an eyesore and I really need to beautify it. Here's a picture taken last week from the private road in front of our house. The hump of dried, overgrown weeds is the storm shelter in the above picture. The…

Repurposing 1 into 4, or 5 or 6; Keeping body parts warm
Recently I bought a couple of sweaters. The idea was to cut off the arms to make knee warmers. My former Chinese TCM acupuncturist/acupressure guy moved away, but I figured his advice to keep my torn meniscus knees warm is a good one. He always said they were cold & had wind. I had been wearing merino wool long underwear,…

Upcycling/repurposing 2 gal glass water dispenser
I need help. This jar is heavy, but of course, it has a hole & no longer has a lid. I should throw it out, I guess, but really don't want to. It is a wonderful strong jar. The spout is no longer good either. I do have the seal for the spout...still have it all actually. The jar is dirty & has water scale deposits. I will…

What to build from some free wood
A friend gave me a truck load of free used wood. Some 6x6,4x4s and other miscellaneous pieces. Also some rolls of 4 ft chicken wire. I'm thinking a fairly large compost bin for leaves, grass, and horse manure (have lots of that). Maybe some raised beds with the wood. I'm planning on starting a Back to Eden garden this…
