Puppies!
We have 5 stocky elkhound puppies that are now 5 weeks old. One female is in the bunch. They are such a joy! I'll have to figure out how to do a video link on here again. They are so short legged. It's funny watching them run around.

My cat seems to have an allergy - itchy skin
My cat is overall healthy, but he is itching too much. It could be dry skin but he has episodes of this, so I am thinking it's an allergy. Does anyone have any suggestions to help? If it does not clear up I will take him to the vet, but he really does not like going to the vet.

Cookbooks for Dogs
I thought this article was kind of funny. I know some of us love our pets enough to cook for them (my cats just get kibble and a spoon of canned food in the mornings.)

Spayed Cat in Heat?
So the little stray cat that I brought in and had spayed back in March has come into full-blown heat twice since. 6 days/nights of extreme affection, yowling, pacing, butt in air, discharge... I'm not happy, and I know I need to get her back to the vet, but I'm looking for personal experiences with this issue. I have the…

10 furry mouths to feed
when the shelves are bear for our fur babies as well, what would be a good route for me to feed them as well off grid? I am assuming starting a rabbitry. I am not crazy about butchering, but if it came down to making sure my cats don't go hungry, I want to try and make sure I am prepared to handle that as well.

Dog with ear problems
Does anyone have a go to remedy for grody ears? I’ve tried mullein in a glycerin tincture but it seemed to make it worse.

Essential oils and cats?
I love the idea of using essential oils. They are natural, and smell wonderful. I want to use them to make my own cleaning and body care products as well as to freshen the air. My big problem is we have 3 cats. And 3 rabbits. I have heard that essential oils can be dangerous to cats and so I'm too afraid to start using…

Cat food recipes
@JennyT Upstate South Carolina I have several different cat food recipes. I like homemade food because i know what is in it and its as close to chemical free as you can get. I prefer chicken and meat recipes but do a few fish. My selection is also based on what I can get at a good price. Butcher shops and delis might sell…

Bobcat fever
2 weeks ago my 10 year old healthy cat stopped eating as usual. He would eat spoon fed #2 chicken gerber and the next day he ate a little bit of real butter of the tip of my finger. The next day I took him to the vet and the next day he was dead. I do not know much about this except it kills and it kills quick. I love my…

Using Natural Herbs For Dogs
Do you have a 4-legged family member(s) known as a dog? Although I have no dogs at this time I'm still first and foremost headed toward the "natural way" for healing for my pets just as much as myself and my family. So here is an excellent article about how you can help the dogs in your own family...…

The Weirdest Thing
Around here that's the way most phone calls to the kids start, but this one is right up there near the top. Our inside cat had 4 healthy kittens, fast forward 3 weeks and I get a call from my husband with "How many kittens does Squeaks have? 4 "Are you sure?" Yes, "There's 5 in the box", Are you sure? "Yes" Now the new…

Dogs just got sprayed by skunk
I have 2 over zealous australian shepards who just got sprayed in the face by a skunk. Any tried and true method to help rid the dogs and car and house of smell would be appreciated. We are urban dwellers...this is a brand new experience for us.

Natural Deworming?
So I found out that at least one of my kittens has worms. I'm fairly certain it's tapeworms. I will go the medication route if I have to, but I want to try something natural first. I've read a few different remedies online(parsley tea and ground pumpkin seed are ones I keep coming across), but I wondered if any of you has…

Advice on a klepto-kitty?
This is Bodthvarr Bjarki the Berserker--a fine big ginger boy, already 15 pounds and only 9 months old! Asleep, he is the sweetest kitty possible. Awake, he is constantly busy living up to his name--and like any Viking, his specialty is stealing stuff and stashing it in secret hiding places. At first it was his siblings'…

Amazing, Lifelike Art: Cats
This Japanese lady has talent. She makes beautiful works of art. I saw the price of one work she did. It was over $4,000 CDN. She says it takes a long time. I don't doubt that. All this from knowing & fine tuning felting skills. Can you imagine? She has tutorials on YouTube if anyone is interested. I viewed many of her…

Calming a Neurotic Cat
Does anyone have any suggestions to keep a cat from licking incessantly. We have tried hops, valerian and oatstraw and nothing seems to calm her. We spend hours a day holding her and reassuring her but the minute she gets down from our laps she starts in again. I even give her catnip treats. Not only does the licking get…

Uh oh Daisy dog got sprayed by a skunk
Our dog got sprayed by a skunk the other night and an interesting thing happened...My mother in law can not smell it! Daisy dog came back in and rubbed on my mother in laws leg, so the smell was in the house. She had no idea, my husband and I were almost sick from the smell. It was the oddest thing. I didn't know that some…

Catnip and dogs
Did you know that Catnip has the reverse affect on dogs as opposed to how it works on cats? Catnip makes cats hyper and crazy. It actually works as a sedative on dogs. The reason I know this is our puppy has severe separation anxiety, especially at night. She was playing with one of our cats' catnip mice the other night…

Bladder Stones in Dogs - Herbal Support
This past couple weeks I have been rather quiet posting as my dog had to have emergency surgery to remove a bladder stone. The stone ended up being the size of a 1/2 dollar coin (US) and about 1/4 inch thick. I have already moved her to the specialized food that she needs to eat as well as the treats, but that all costs…

Life with Pets
Well it was inevitable that I would write about pets since I have 5 of them. Here is what I said in a different thread, decided to put it where it belonged. "My African Grey is awesome and very intelligent but also a tremendous amount of work. They make quite the mess. Also, birds are very vulnerable to a number of things,…
