Making Turmeric Pastilles
Has anyone used powdered turmeric to make pastilles? Or does anyone have any idea what the dosage would be? I used a variation of this recipe: Turmeric Pastilles: 2/3 of a cup of turmeric powder 4 tablespoons of coconut oil 2 tablespoons of raw honey a pinch of finely ground black pepper Mix the above into a paste. Roll…

Equisetum arvense or hyemale.
What timing, I took a couple of pics the other day, to post on here wether I had E arvense or E hymale growing in a couple of ponds I have. Then I find an email from TGN re live plants! I’m not familiar with either plant but I do see what I think is horsetail in wet landscaping situations. So I believe I have both growing…

Growing Fenugreek
I was looking at herbs for a client today and fenugreek popped up for several symptoms. I don't often use this but apparently it is something I should look at more often. It has many benefits. Anyhow, back to the topic at hand. I want to grow some, now that I have discovered it has a growing season that will fit with mine.…

Butterbur
There are a few types. Petasites japonica & P. hybridus are what I've been reading about. Hybridus is what is in my supplement and I can get seeds here: I've read quite a few other links too, but I neglected to copy their addresses. I have been taking a butterbur (75mg)-feverfew (200mg) capsule sold by "Now" for…

Black Elderberry
Are there any members in the 3B growing zone that have tried growing black elderberry? I live in rural Alaska. We have red elderberry that grows wild here. Was wondering if anyone had tried growing the black elderberry in colder climates like mine?

In this one I have oregano (dominating), echinacea, soap wort, St. John’s wort, peppermint, Jerusalem artichokes, primrose, wild teasel, yarrow… it would be nice to see your herbal beds. This is a high…

Horehound candy?
I have a clog of horehounds (the white variety, if I remember correctly), growing on a hot, sandy bank on the side of the house. Does anybody know how to make horehound candy? Or, does horehound tincture also work for coughs/sore throats? If I make candy or tincture, should I include anything else like mint?

Sage is blooming
Well, I was going to divide my sage plant. It has gotten huge from the tiny seedling I bought back in 2020. But I didn`t get around to it, and now it has blossomed. Somehow I didn`t realize that sages are in the salvia family until just recently. I also didn`t realize that it was going to bloom like this until I saw the…

Caragana (caragana aborescens)
I remember baking mud pies and adding "bananas" from these very prickly bushes to my creations when I was young. I have many fond early childhood memories of using these in my prickly kitchen fort. The Canadian Prairies have lots of these shrubs (hardy zones 2-7) that have overrun old homestead properties, if the yardsites…

Harvesting Root Bark question
I saw a description at several online herb shops, about a process for harvesting root bark: "Gathered in November and early December, Bayberry Root Bark is removed from the trunk and branches by heating the roots, which is then used to make bulk dried herbs for sale." I've been trying to find out more information about…

Passion flower vine as a house plant
I am thinking that this would be a good choice for me to grow indoors. Considering that there are over 500 varieties, which would be the best medicinally? How large do they get? I am asking here, and have many other questions. I will be researching this further & checking for what Richters might have to offer, but also…

What Medicinal Plants Grow Well Indoors?
Have you grown medicinals indoors...not just the usual culinary herbs, but beyond? Which ones? Are there any others? Any tips? Which need special treatment, grow lights, special growing medium? Gifted a bucket of bugle!
Woohoo, a neighbor just dropped off a big bucket full of freshly dug bugleweed, ajuga repens, at my door! Here is an article I wrote on bugle a while back.
