English Ivy basket
This is the first basket I've made from English Ivy. It turned out pretty well, but I found that ivy makes great weavers but are not the best staves. I finished the rim just by stitching it with yucca fiber. I like working with ivy, and certainly have a ton to use maybe the next one will be good enough to sell!

first commissioned spoon
This is my first commissioned spoon... the guy asked me to carve a long handled teaspoon. Since I am using American holly, which is very finely grained and strong, I was able to give it an elegant curve and a delicate looking, thin handle. It is actually quite strong and durable - should last for generations unless someone…

A cute dress!
@hedgehog girl made this for herself today. She has to do a touch of finishing along the back and hem the bottom. It is a top & skirt. She took the basic pattern of a Mennonite dress and altered the bodice to include a sweetheart neckline, no sleeves, open back with ties, & made a fuller skirt with a large belt. It's her…

Here is a new design that I like
I came up with these thinking about what might be nice for a charcuterie set. These are free form and rough - I literally just carved them. I think with a little refinement, sanding and oiling, they will make a nice cheese knife, teaspoon for mustard and capers and a pickle fork.

Holly carvings so far
Remember that knotty, twisted holly tree I began working on a few months ago... well, this is what I have carved by the mid-point of the year. I think I started with it in April. Each piece was a learning experience, working with knots and the wood. I am pleased and I think I will be ready to sell some soon!

Not half bad...
I think I made a rather nice bit of rope this evening, on the porch as I listened to the news. I am re-learning to make rope. It was a skill I learned in the Scouts when I was a kid. My splicing some work. Next, I will learn to make cord from bark, blackberry and kudzu! I know how to use yucca, but it doesn't grow…

Don't give up!
I carved this spoon last night. It was a very knotty, twisted piece with a split in the area that would become the handle. I almost threw it away, but I think it turned out to be the prettiest spoon I've made yet. I curved the handle to work around the split, then cut out a knot at the end and reflected the design in the…

A British style greenwood spoon
A twisted, knotty piece of wood I axed out yesterday made a decent spoon. I'll refine the lines after it dries a bit and probably do some carved decoration on the handle. Overall, I'm pleased as is a very comfortable eating spoon.

Soap Making With Herbal Oils
I was playing around with making herbal oils and ended up with way too much. I bet that's never happened to anyone here! 🙄🤣 Then a friend offered to teach me how to make soap. I got lost down a rabbit hole and came up several months later after learning how to make tallow and all the science behind the process. Still…

Anyone into basket weaving?
I am thinking about turning some of the vines on my property into baskets. I really like the British style willow baskets and the Cherokee/Appalachian honeysuckle baskets... etc - old style, useful baskets. Can anyone recommend a good book or two that might get me started?

Bending Rebar With the Power of My Mind
And now for something totally different! I recently took a workshop on using the power of mind to bend rebar. Does anyone have plant crafts to share?
I saw a bit of a cattail & (?) iris basket weaving video by Herbal Academy and wondered how many of you use plants in your crafts. What do you make? Do you have pictures? Videos? I think botanical printing would be fun.

The crafts we do
This photo brought back memories. I used to do a lot of mosaic work. The mirror was a $1 find at an auction. All the glass pieces from auction finds and the gourd I grew and dried. The photo is a bit sad as it was photographed on the door of the barn that no longer stands

Making grapevine wreaths
I just started making grapevine wreaths from the wild vines on the property. We have so many it will not affect harvesting. I have noticed in the past some vines are stiffer and almost have bark while some are lighter in color and supple. Has anyone else noticed this. Today I used the lighter supple vines as they were…

Free clothing sale. Wow!
We have a local clothing clothing distributor. They sell all over the USA. This year they donated clothing to a church that was new. Maybe it did not sell as well as they thought, etc.., But it was new. Some of the popular sizes were not there but there was still enough to find great deals (yes free!) I went with the…

crafting ideas for felt
I have a lot of felt. I went to an auction a few years back and it was for a sewing business. Great sale. I bought about 12 bolts of felt for $1 a piece.
