Broc, Cali and lettuce indoors in dirt under lights
I am growing 6 plants each. I am 70 days into this and about 30 days ago 1 to 2 leaves on half all of these plants started to brown at the tip and eventually fell off. I raised the lights from 18 inches to 24 inches. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Water quality & home grown vegetables
It’s the middle of spring in Australia & already this season in my area it’s looking very dry, dams getting low, creeks stopped flowing & bushfires are already an issue. A bit of a change from the last 3 years which were wet, wet, wet. Thank goodness we have a bore & up until a few months ago, it had had little use. I am…

Local Mushrooms
I am very excited that we have a local mushroom grower. They have been at a farmers market in the larger community closest to me. So far I have tried: Chestnuts, Shitakes, King Trumpets, Lion's Mane and several types of Oyster shrooms including Pink, Yellow, White, Blue and Black Pearl Kings. They are all soooo good. I'll…

Onions and how on earth can I grow them!
This year again I tried bunching onions and shallots. I planted them near each other and to tell you the truth I have no idea if they are in amongst the greens or not. I need to get out tomorrow and get the greens picked. Last year I planted onions and nothing happened. Do I need to prepare the soil differently

Too much overgrown zucchini? Try this!
I saw this post just today & thought it might be wise to pass it along to all of you swimming in zucchini or had it gifted on your doorstep or in your car.

Peas are growing very slowly
Has anyone noticed that the crops are not growing as fast this year. I planted my peas in late July for a Fall crop and they are not growing as fast as usual. They are Bush peas and so I know they will be smaller but still... Even the greens I planted in late June are ready now for a first picking. The one plant the bird…

Productivity of green beans
I am growing French filet beans using two varieties, Emerite and Fortex. Fortex are larger and slightly better optimized for the hottest days of summer. This bowl is a single day's picking from a bed about 4 ft x 8 ft. You don't need much space to grow pole beans. Some of the beans are huge! I highly recommend these green…

I want to share a picture of my ginger flower.
It has the most beautiful flower and tiny orange/yellow snap dragon looking flowers below the big white one. Last year only the white one flowered. I have another one that hasn't gotten any. I think it's really beautiful!! I can't wait to harvest some of the root later on. I'm going to freeze it so it stays good longer. I…

Growing a giant pumpkin
Northeast Giant Pumpkin on Instagram has been very interesting to follow. He is pursuing "growing a 2500 lb pumpkin." He names each pumpkin. Its one per plant. He is very careful & purposeful about his pollination process, etc. I thought that some of you might enjoy following his progress if you have IG. It's pretty…

Bean Surprise
Put a sprouted bean with no roots in my hydroponic unit and surprisingly it grew roots!! I've been rooting tomato suckers that way in a couple days to make new tomato plants but had no idea a bean would do the same thing! Some animal dug out the dirt and pulled the bean sprouts out of the dirt and left them on my patio.…

Greens and Problems
I just planted my greens at the end of last week. I did have a bird that dropped a seed of beet greens which has turned into a hybrid of some kind. Another seed was planted in my garden box and it was a Swiss Chard seed. I transplanted it and it has ginormous leaves. The neighborhood chat called Next Door had a comment…

Anyone growing runner beans for food?
I have grown pole and bush beans for years. Both of these are variants of the common bean, Phaseolus vulgaris. Just recently, I started reading about runner beans, Phaseolus coccineus. Runner beans produce edible pods and beans in the pod, grow fairly tall on supports, and have more colorful flowers than common beans. Best…

Questions about Greens
It occurred to me that I will be planting greens (beet, spinach, kale and Swiss Chard) in the area where most every night there is a meth smell. Will that affect the leaves and will the leaves retain that smell? The garden plot is on the north side where I had so much luck with the greens before. I am also planting carrots…

Tomato starts
OK, I know tomatoes are actually a fruit, but more folks categorize them in the vegetables. @Torey My Pollock tomatoes are sprouting!!!! Hopefully our snow will be gone in time to move them outside. LOL The snow is hanging on way too long this year.

Wrong or mixed seeds in packs
Is anyone else finding the wrong seeds in packs of seeds? I planted onion seeds and onions did not grow from them. I pretty sure they're radishes. These I bought from a seed seller online. Also, I planted carrots and not only got carrots popping up but tomatoes too. I have taken a total of 12 tomato plants now out of my…

Growing Parsnips?
Two seasons ago I devoted 1 bed in my veggie garden to parsnips. In the past I hadn’t had much luck with germination (they are notorious for poor germination results) but this particular year, germination was a resounding success. So I thinned them out eventually & had a nice crop. They were the variety Hollow Crown. So…

New member: Tips for Getting Started
Hi everyone. I am excited to be a new member of this community. I have a lot to learn from all of you. I have had a garden in years past, but it was not very successful for many reasons. One issue I have is the soil is primarily clay and difficult to work with. So, I want to try my hand at raised garden beds. I have two…

Tomato variety for cool, frosty weather?
Can anyone suggest a tomato variety that will thrive in cool weather and won't die at the first touch of frost? I have grown varieties like Sub Arctic and Siberian and they do all right, but typically these "cool" tomatoes have been bred and selected to grow quickly in a short warm season, rather than growing and fruiting…

My autumn garden
After being away for the majority of March, I decided back in Feb, to clean up the garden, top up the mulch & give it a break until I got home. I normally start putting seeds in for my winter garden in Feb but opted not to (not to much pressure on my lovely house sitter) and I would purchase seedlings when I got home, so I…

Happy little sprouts
Well, I had a pumpkin that when cut open revealed sprouted seeds inside. Some even had green leaves! Being the softy (or sucker) that I am, I could not kill them by throwing them to the pigs or anything else. So, here they are. Last we counted, just a couple days ago, there were 13. I guess I'll keep them well pruned until…

He uses yeast to feed his cucumbers.
Has anyone tried this? I wonder how well it works. He mixes yeast with sugar to feed it and then lets it grow for a couple hours and then dilutes it a few more times with water before feeding the cucumbers. Cucumbers will grow in a moment! Just pour this over the cucumber shoots - YouTube

Which gourds have you grown?
I want to grow some gourds this spring that I'll be able to use as scoops and for other things. Are there any gourds you've grown in the past that you've had success with? And if so which company did you order them from? I'd love to hear your thoughts, thanks.😊

Summer Seed Starting
I know this is a very un-seasonal question, but last summer I was unable to successfully start seeds during the hot months. I usually do lots of succession planting so it was really a drag. My climate is very hot in the summer, so I’d start the seedlings on the porch, but I’d have to move them back to direct sun or they’d…
