we use white willow often. I actually have it in a blend with CBD and other herbs for instant pain relief. even my pain clients that are maxed out on their opiates swear by it. But yes willow bark is powerful herb. Like ALindsay also said you can control pain and inflammation internally as well as externally. So whatever you do (for most herbs ) you do both. Another natural remedy is arnica cream or homeopathic arnica internally (not sure about the tincture Ive never used it in that form pure arnica taken internally is usually not recommended its toxic to the liver) ..use both together also give a powerful punch to reduce pain.

I confess that if the pain is severe, such as after a surgery or dental work, I will use a prescription. I try to use turmeric on a daily basis in my cooking for general pain relief such as achy back or sore knees. That and eating right seem to be keeping me nearly pain-free, and I am an older woman who still works hard outdoors doing all the yard and garden work, which can make me hurt pretty badly.

Miss Patricia
You should look into CBD oil for your inflammation and pain. I personally haven't used OTC pain relief or scripts for almost a decade using CBD and cannabis on ourselves, to be perfectly open about this , my husband (who was ejected from a parked vehicle when a bus traveling 55 mph hit him and my problem was from adhesions fusing all my pelvic organs together and them plastering them to my abdominal wall)and I were both on opiates for decades for pain, using cannabis and or CBD is MORE effective than any opiate or pain relieving drug we've ever used and we were on many of them ..at the end i was maxed out on my script (4 -30 mg pills a day plus am and pm long acting opiate my hubby on the other hand was taking 600 mg of oxycodone 3 times a day, I know how that sounds but its what he was taking Im just happy he is still alive)
The right CBD product formulation works really effectively. I have this natural roll-on product we use in our wellness center, even my clients who have been on opiates for years or those ones that are maxed out on their opiate scripts looking for pain relief from the breakthrough pain or simply a deeper relief find huge pain relief using CBD products, its worth a look into

Just saw something about wild lettuce being good for severe pain...you might want to check it out. I have no idea where you would find the plant.

Try cut up twigs of willow in a bathtub soak as well.

For bones and Joints I use Dr. Christopher formula. I use willow bark to make a tea to drink. Much better than popping an aspirin. Thanks Laurie for the thought on putting twigs into the bath. I had been pondering this the last few days as building this house is taking a toll on my old bones!

I recently made a Herbal Cream/Lotion that has been working great for us for anti inflammatory, pain relief, muscle and tendon problems etc. See the excellent course on Making Herbal Medicine for how to make your own herbal lotions.
Ours has: Comfrey, Plantain, Calendula flower, White willow bark, Echinacea, Yarrow, Rosemary, Lavender, Lemon Balm, Chamomile, Feverfew
We grew most of these in our garden and yard. (only willow, we don't grow)

I recently discovered some Goldenrod growing on my property, so I looked up it’s medicinal properties. jim mcdonald is one of my favorite herbalists and he said it works similar to arnica for pain. Henriette Kress is another great herbalist and she says “Goldenrod relieves most muscle aches. Try it for pains nothing else has touched”. So, I made Goldenrod infused oil.
I fell asleep on the couch the other night and woke up with a headache, sore neck, and stiff back. I rubbed the oil on my neck and back and my headache went away rather quickly! After a second application a little while later, the other pains faded away too.
I hope you find something that works for you! -
Wow, what great information! So the arnica tincture I used was arnica extract from the flower. Maybe that’s not as potent? I got it from a health foods store.
I’m wondering how do you tell what CBD oil is good? Here in North Carolina there’s all kinds of companies advertising it, but what standards do you use when first starting to use it?
Thanks! -
Acupuncture can be very effective for pain relief, I have had great success but it is important to find a well qualified practitioner for something acute. This has been my experience, acupuncture is great for chronic stuff, but I only have found 2 acupuncturist who were effective with acute problems, and both were trained in China.
Sometimes soaking in a hot bath loaded with epsom salts can be enough to take the edge off, and this can also be a great time to add in some essential oils to the bath.
Also practicing full body relaxation is helpful, lie down in a quiet area and just relax head to toe. Focus your breath on the pain and work to breathe it away, and let gravity melt all of your muscles off the bone.
I second the recommendation for wild, lettuce, it is supposed to have a morphine type effect.
I hope you find some relief soon. -
After an injury to my back when I was a teenager I've had back pain due to sciatica....I guess it depends on what is causing your back pain.
I have found seeing a chiropractor and getting acupuncture helpful. However a couple of years ago I had a 5 month period when nothing helped. After trying many things I started to take Pretorius Organic Multi-Minerals. Three days later I started to have significant improvement. I've taken it ever since.
I've used hot packs on my back as well.
I hope you find some relief soon. -
Andrea,
I am in NC too! Our Holistic Wellness center is located in Greensboro!
not all CBD is created the same, depending on your ailment and health history would determine whether hemp oil, hemp oil extract, high CBD oil or CBD isolate is best for your condition. Within those categories there are always those selling you junk, its important to ask for lab testing to show whats in and NOT in the product , if they can't provide this DONT purchase, anyone respectable and worth their weight in CBD will have this readily available for you.
Happy Healing,

Heather,
I live in Asheville. I’ll come visit your center one of these days!
I never thought of getting CBD oil tested for what’s not in it. Great suggestion. With everyone and their mother selling it these days you have to be careful. -
I certainly would make sure the manufacturer's or distributors of the product provide the info (having it tested yourself is gonna get expensive)
By all means come visit our center! We do all kinds of really cool and interesting things... I also go to Asheville about 2x a year as its where most of my cranio sacral classes are given!

StaceyLou, how did you make the goldenrod oil? I would like to make some.
Did you use fresh or dried? -
I just read something about Tienchi Ginseng being helpful for trauma in ligaments, muscles and tissues. Even gunshot wounds. I always thought ginsengs were used for energy purposes since they’re adaptogenic but Tienchi is supposed to be good for pain and inflammation and swelling. I’m definitely gonna try it externally.

This is only a bit more expensive, - and True, it is always best to know the ELEMENTAL dosage that the body actually can use. The one I have been taking for six years does not state that: https://www.amazon.com/Designs-Health-Complete-Chelated-Iron-Free/dp/B0041B11BQ
My injuries started age 23 when as a Nurse passing out medications, I tried to keep a 280 pound man from falling out of bed. I tried to block his fall with my own body, & when he fell on top of me - the result was that I came within a hair of ending up Paralyzed from C-2 down for LIFE. I was 90% paralyzed for seven weeks, but received NO treatment whatsoever. For a decade afterwards I continued fainting almost every day, but had to force myself to continue working....
Forty plus years later I still have to work to pay the bills. And then in 2015 a surgeon took my broken wrist & upper arm out of Alignment which further crippled me. - So you can imagine what I go thru to DIG with only my hands over forty HOLES attempting to create for us a food FOREST garden.......
I wonder if your Australia " Pretorius Organic Multi-Minerals " is available in the USA.

Dang, that's some expensive cream!
