how to cut up dried roots for tincture

Hi Linda,

Usually red root is cut up and broken into pieces before the drying process 1. because it dries hard and 2 because its root is hearty, to prevent mold forming during the drying process (this herb root takes a little longer to dry) with that said you most likely will need a strong enough machine to grind it or pulverize it if it was given to you whole, Unfortunately, The root is water soluble so soaking it will release active ingredients you want to preserve.

Happy Healing
Heather

thank you for this information! I managed to cut up enough to make a small tincture. I used my miter saw but wasn't comfortable to continue with the rest of the roots.(!!)   Not sure what machine would be safe and effective. This was mostly a pilot project with this root. I generally order my Red Root tincture from herbalist shop.
