@Jimerson Thanks for the clarification as I am one of the newbies. Should I only upload small size photos to be safe?

  • JimersonJimerson Posts: 216 admin

@shllnzl Great question! In short, yes. Smaller photos reduce overall bandwidth and are more friendly to mobile viewers or those with slower internet speeds.

  • Merin PorterMerin Porter Posts: 273 admin

@Jimerson , thank you so much for posting these!

  • rainbowrainbow ✭✭✭ Posts: 931 ✭✭✭✭

@Jimerson - in order that posts can be met with 100% compliance, when vague rules are not understood, are we allowed to ask any questions ?

  • herbantherapyherbantherapy Posts: 77 ✭✭✭

@Jimerson what should we do if we see someone posting links to similar sites?

  • LaurieLaurie Posts: 513 ✭✭✭

Thanks, @Jimerson ! This is a good list of easily adhered to rules, which are always necessary in running a smooth running community group. Bravo! 👏

Somehow in past 3 days missed the YES-answer ?

    1.RE "No Spam

All automated messages, advertisements, and links to competitor websites will be deleted immediately."

re SPAM - isn't that what O'bama loves chowing down?, and as another Educational resource seeding Info far & wide, how could TGN have competitors ? - Who are they ? so we don't make the mistake of mentioning someone. And Automated message, what do you mean? - and are links given to the www. for Informational purposes not Allowed ?

Asking, as recently have been asked for info like for instance "zone 3" plants, but as I do Not understand some rules, obviously, I could Not state the exact URL, instead had to dance around others questions...

    2.RE No Trolling

Trolling (posting to provoke others, luring them to flame or rant) will not be tolerated. We do understand that trolling can be done involuntarily, so please be considerate when posting. Do not engage or quote people who troll or flame.

Flame ? & Trolling ? & Toxic presence ? -How about Imagined contexts where those are explained, please.

3.RE Any instance of threatening or harassing behavior is grounds for immediate deletion from the forums.

An outright threat (aside illegal) is obviously NOT ok. - Yet please explain what is meant by harassing?

4.RE ... "third-party verification services (including, but not limited to, spam prevention services)." - The search-engine did not explain, what that means? - About 20 different sites merely Repeated that above phrase over & over. Please explain what that phrase means.

5.RE ... "These terms may be changed at any time without notice." Question: How can members comply with Rules of which they are NOT aware ?

Also when Rules are Vague, with the threat of a Ban, it causes the membership to experience increasing Anxiety, which lead to panic-Attacks, which can result in heart-Failure, & physical death of members.

Thank you for answering these questions.

@rainbow Absolutely! Questions are always welcome. You may ask here on the forum or you may reach out to me directly at [email protected] with any questions. If there are personal concerns, those should always be directed to me rather than publicly posting.

@rainbow Here are the answers to your questions:

    • Asking, as recently have been asked for info like for instance "zone 3" plants, but as I do Not understand some rules, obviously, I could Not state the exact URL, instead had to dance around others questions...
    • **TGN has plenty of competitors, but rather than list them all out, just run with the general rule that we don't permit other website links on our forum posts if they are advertising someone else. Example: Hey, So-and-so company has CBD oil half off this week. Check them out here at www.whoevertheyare.com. Another example would be Hey, make $1000 today by joining me on this site at www.anotherspamsite.com
    • **If the website is for reference purpose to cite your sources, please feel free to use it. But, these links will be closely monitored and if they are not in compliance, they will be removed.

Hi @Nikki Follis Thank you so much for Caring, to respond. 🙂 For 3 days been wondering IF they would ever be explained, as Noone wants to be banned for not understanding...

    Let's see:

    • **TGN has plenty of competitors, but rather than list them all out, just run with the general rule that we don't permit other website links on our forum posts if they are advertising someone else. Example: Hey, So-and-so company has CBD oil half off this week. Check them out here at www.whoevertheyare.com. • **If the website is for reference purpose to cite your sources, please feel free to use it. But, these links will be closely monitored and if they are not in compliance, they will be removed.

Okay so that refers only to Advertising, plus some Spammer that's only trying to cause trouble: such as Drawing GN members away, to another business ? - Surely Understandable, & Agreed.

Question: For example when I mentioned "Doc Patrick Jones as a working Veterinarian, & practicing naturopath plus Clinical/teaching Herbalist", then I added that he has a Delightful sense of humor. - Now I have not yet met him personally, but he & Marjory Wildcraft are Good friends, so I thought given their Friendly relationship that it was quite Alright for me to make a newer member aware of his outstanding competence :) Nikki, Was this mention okay ?

& in my https://community.thegrownetwork.com/discussion/841983/pushing-the-zone-who-has-grown-tropical-similar-delights discussion, I started to introduce it by mentioning "David the Good as also a GN member", & the fact that he continuously attempts at growing plants, beyond the given USDA zones. Nikki, Was this mention okay ?

& Nikki, were/are further such mentions okay ?

& Nikki, re the www Educational Reference sources: My only interest lies in helping yet others Freely to also learn (no $ involved), & further when I make an innocent mistake, I am naturally FINE with anything I post being 'equally Good-natured' removed 🙂

okay this getting too long, so how about I respond to the 2nd question, in the next post.

    Thank you :)

    Hi again @Nikki Follis RE 2. Flame ? & Trolling ? & Toxic presence ?

    • Trolling (posting to provoke others, luring them to flame or rant) will not be tolerated. We do understand that trolling can be done involuntarily, so please be considerate when posting. Do not engage or quote people who troll or flame.

    RE "for sport" ?

INTENTIONALLY Wants to hurt someone, because that makes them in some sick way happy ?? oh good Grief ! - No no, that is not even 'good'. It's Bad grief.

Altho the word "seems" (more than not), boils down to perception... iow Interpreting....iow Guessing, yes?

Here in TGN, people by & large Genuinely do CARE I believe about everyone Individually being Healthy, Happy, & thriving...

    • 3.RE Any instance of threatening or harassing behavior is grounds for immediate deletion from the forums.

Iow, beyond the usual face-to-face communication challenges, on the Internet the communication challenges are multiplied..... as surely you are aware: for we LACK most everything about each precious person: such as a person's Primary languages, present experience, how another person factually functions from day-to-day, what emotion, if any, is involved now, voice Tonality, Body-language, Facial-expressions, etc. etc - All that to say, that ((except for someone profaning Routinely; or calling people Bad names; or Rigidly accusing another of being 'toxic' )) , it's entirely possible, would you agree ? that any person can be all too easily Misunderstood particularly on the Internet. - Apparently I was a bad kid this week, includg. misunderstanding @ karinm who swiftly handed out my 1st. Downmark. And my response to that? I posted to her: " Enjoy a wonderful 🙂 week"

Voluntarily standing in the corner in shame for a day is one thing; but being branded a toxic criminal, & threatened with two bans comes across as exactly that: Aggressive, bullying, demeans, humiliates or ......... , such singular Emotional reactions are 0pposite of nearly 100x Upvotes, & nearly 70 awesomes, etc.. - So during trying times, being Positively Supported by people always wanting the BEST is best. Hi @rainbow,

I used to own and manage a forum before. I've dealt with quite a few intense conflicts directly with members and between members. There will always be misunderstandings, misinterpretations and disagreements. This is unavoidable and should be expected so that you don't get surprised or shocked. The truth is that in this world you will always find someone who is out to cause trouble.

The challenge is to learn to respond with grace and truth, peace and goodwill. In other words it is an opportunity for character building.

You don't have to worry or be in anxiety about whether you are posting anything wrong as long as your aim is grace, truth, peace and goodwill, and I'm sure the staff at TGN cannot help but do likewise. If you're doing anything wrong, they'll let you know. And if you see me posting anything wrong, go to the staff at TGN. They'll deal with me. And if you want to do something that you're not sure off, just ask the staff at TGN.

Just like we are counselled to bring our troubles and cares in our relationships with people and things to our heavenly Father to take care of, so likewise in this context, it is better to leave all these issues with the staff at The Grow Network.

Having been a past forum manager, owner of a company and being a father, it is better for each member, employee and children to come to me if they have any issues, and not to fight it among themselves.

What do the points mean and how do we accumulate them?

  • JimersonJimerson Posts: 216 admin

    Great question!

The point system is in place for a couple reasons:

The first is simple.. some people like earning points and badges! For them it's another way to have fun on the forums! For people who don't care about points, they can safely ignore them.

Badges and points can be earned in several ways, including posting and receiving positive reactions to your post. There are even some secret badges that can be earned! Soon, certification courses completed on academy.thegrownetwork.com will earn a badge for each course completed as well as 100 points.

Another reason for points is that if a forum member consistency receives negative points, we are notified and can investigate. Perhaps they are a spam bot or just a negative or abusive person, in which cases might warrant further action from us. This is less effective than reporting forum abuses directly to [email protected] because people seem to nice to use the negative reaction button in our forms. It's a nice problem to have. : )

To reiterate, unless someone is accumulating negative points, one can safely ignore the points and badges system if they wish. I hope that helps, have a great day!

I have a question for you. I was interested in joining the Street Team forum to help others, learn from others, and also take advantage of the certificates available. However, part of being a part it is desired to post at least once a day or several times per day. We have just purchased a home that requires a great deal of yard work, and with this and working full time I am having a difficult time posting every single day. I don't want to be taking advantage - but also don't want to leave. As of late I have been able to post either every day but sometimes only two days. Is this acceptable?

  • shllnzlshllnzl Southern UtahPosts: 525 ✭✭✭✭

@rainbow Thanks for the detailed response. That will help all the newbies.

Personally, I am enjoying the positive atmosphere of this forum. All of us I working towards positive change in the world, one plant or animal at a time.

    Hi again @Nikki Follis,

am trying to get thru these 5 major responses:

    • 4.RE ... "third-party verification services (including, but not limited to, spam prevention services)." - The search-engine did not explain, what that means? - About 20 different sites merely Repeated that above phrase over & over. Please explain what that phrase means.
    • **This means we reserve the right to monitor our site with third-party software to ensure that our site is safe from harm.

My concerns were re 3rd., and "but not limited to" - so you are only trying to keep the site safe from Hackers, true?

iow, Not verifying member's (shelter) bank-accounts, true? - Don't laugh, but after learning like 8 human languages, what ever happened beyond our FOOD-gardens ? - As soon as 2G got going, I knew there would be unending troubles. - Anyway, Thanks for trying to Clarify some rules.

    • 5.RE ... "These terms may be changed at any time without notice.Question: How can members comply with Rules of which they are NOT aware ?
    • **It's a best practice to always review the rules before posting. :)

something got lost in translation, was the question phrased wrong ?

How about RE "No Notice" : When members are Not informed that TGN-rules were (in the future) changed, how can members comply ?? with changed/New set of rules, when it is done "without notice." - understand this question better?

    • Also when Rules are Vague, with the threat of a Ban, it causes the membership to experience increasing Anxiety, which lead to panic-Attacks, which can result in heart-Failure, & physical death of members.
    • **Yikes! We certainly hope our rules don't create someone to be in such distress. These are pretty common rules that can be found on similar sites and we are always here to clarify if you need it. :)

Well, at 1 time I too owned a Forum we called Abundant Life: soul+mind+body = our 3 main sections. And we could not share Abundance fast.... enough - Just our own Blessed personal Relationship with DAD had 100's lively discussions. Added to these our mind-section starting with the "Success Alphabet" I created & taught in real-life too, along with many other such classes. Then the body-section I started with "grow your own food": obviously this can go on forever Abundantly... too.

Each hurting soul that joined us was UPlifted & Encouraged & Praised & too we shared Good-humor. (Too we reserved a public gripe-section: as we all suffer thru the sick world. In this part we allowed challenges to also be aired publically, so we could help each other. And as obviously "he with the gold rules..." does not work, 'golden rule' was replaced with such as did:

Intentionally, we kept the rules to a very bare minimum:

1.Do not post anything that can get anybody here in trouble with USA law.

2.See that (posted) Swear-filter: it Deletes nasty words, & then you will look stupid. Don't do it.

3.If in past, you were so abused can't recall any LOVing kindness: Come here, we will bless you with Abundant love...

4.Please treat others as they want to be treated.... Yes, our forum was constructive, positive & joyful... much like TGN.

Only as the other Admin.'s life got too changed, & the other 2 didn't know much more than I did about computers, so our Happy party ended, but our friendship continues...

    • Thank you for answering these questions.
    • **Thank you for being a continued TGN Community Member :)

    Thank you again !
