GROW: The Book
This unit is supposed to turn all your kitchen scraps into useful soil amendment in 3 hours. Has anyone ever heard or tried this?
Here is small video clip about half way down the page on the left:
@Foodgardenguy - wondering how similar ? that gadget is to this discussion that we had about six weeks ago: https://community.thegrownetwork.com/discussion/comment/842041 What makes me question it is the "in 3 hours" - Yes, you can start to Ferment stuff in three hours; but fermenting is Not the same as Composting = an entirely different process, that actually does make soil.
In their description of how it works: "processing: Agitators quietly break down the food waste into small particles while it’s heated, decomposing and sterilizing the by-product entirely." - When they admit to sterilizing, you know it is Not soil. - SOIL is alive, & teeming with micro-organisms able to empower... seedlings with further growth, that enable...plants to bear food.
Sterilized stuff is what you get at the Big Box store. but SOIL is what you get by Natural composting. :)
Thanks for bringing it to our attention. Intriguing idea if it works as advertised. I would want lots of positive reviews before I spent that much for it.
@rainbow Yes I totally realize that it is not fermentation which is live. However, like any other soil amendments such as lime, feather meal, alfalfa, kelp, rock dust...etc., the break down of kitchen scrap would encompass a wide range of micro-nutrients and vitamins.
You can always add the live cultures afterwards....
@shllnzl Yes I agree it is very expensive. It's actually my wife that is inquiring about it and would like to get it.
@Foodgardenguy - That is not even close to what I said. I think you mis-understood. - but Have a nice day :)
