Fresh Lavender

I've always grown the culinary herbs and spices every year.
But this Spring I put in three lavender bushes also and they have did remarkably well. I had a whole total 6 blooms in June on all three bushes so I just figured next year I will be able to do something with them. I should be able to harvest a few buds then.
Well it's still this year and those three bushes are now covered with just emerging blooms. I've heard before when using them to get the blooms picked before they open for the best results.
But anybody have any ideas of what's good to use them for?
I know I've heard the lavender can be used in baking but I'd like to try anything else. I've never tried herbalism, making medicines, or just anything else.
Any good ideas?

@Lisa K , I just fixed a whole chicken yesterday so I could get the bones and stuff to make more stock. Too bad I never thought of trying that.
Next time I'll give that a try just to see how it comes out. Thanks

@greyfurball I use lavender in at least half of I’ll my herbal preparations! It’s soothing healing calming herb that smells wonderful!
add lavender and rose Petals to witch hazel leave for at least 2 weeks... makes a fragrant soothing toner for the face
make an infused oil and use in salves for additional healing and soothing

@lmrebert, as with any new project I always like to talk to experience first instead of just hitting the books and knowing nothing about the end results. So I appreciate when someone gives me ideas which have worked well for them in the past.
So thanks for the guidance. I'll check out your suggestions and see where they take me. I especially like the idea of the salve recipe you show here. Thanks.
