Herbs and remedies for asthma adults and children ?

I have a friend whom her and her young one have severe asthma, and of course it’s not controlled well by pharma. Anyone have success with herbs, which ones and also for children? Another post about smoking mullein sparked my thoughts for her and her child but a child isn’t going to smoke it, she’s a nurse and I’m thinking she wouldn’t either... that might be a hard sell. I would like feedback on peoples experiences!

I've had chronic asthma since I was 5 - meds didn't help much and damaged my heart. There are many herbs that help with asthma. Some are good for emergencies, like lobelia and ephedra (used with care)… and even tobacco and coffee. Others are adaptogens or anti-inflammants … angelica, sage, turmeric, ginseng, etc. No herb has ever helped me as much Dang SHen or codonopsis. That, combined with drinking water kefir and kombucha daily , has made all the difference for me. Honestly, a that combo was a life saver.

Besides smoking mullein, my daughter has made use of lobelia, ephedra and even coffee when needed. Her main ways of avoiding problems with asthma are diet and lifestyle. She avoids dairy and gluten, follows a strict organic diet including kefir and kombucha, lots of water. She practices yoga and qigong with emphasis on breathing exercises. Is very physically active, miles-long hikes at least twice weekly, if fact she and her husband will be taking on the Arizona Trail early next year.

I'm not familiar with Dang Shen but will mention it to my daughter.

In addition to smoking mullein a tea can be made from it and drank several times per day. This may be more desirable than smoking it.

Coltsfoot (Petasites species) is well known for treating asthma. It is recommended in smoking mixtures along with mullein but can easily be taken as a tea instead of as a smoke. Osha (Ligusticum porterii) has a reputation for assisting people with breathing from a variety of causes; altitude, colds, bronchitis, asthma, allergies. It is sometimes combined with Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) for its antispasmodic properties and to help with the taste. Osha can also be made into a honey. Dr. Jones recommends Gumweed (Grindelia), although I am not familiar with it"s use.

Asthma is horrible and scary! I used to keep a rescue inhaler on me all the time! And I believe ephedra is what caused my heart condition. Then I discovered Frankincense essential oil! It changed my life! Now I carry around a bottle of frankincense essential oil everywhere I go. But the funny thing is, I rarely ever even need it anymore! It has been several years, yes, YEARS, since I've had a flare up! All I did was open the bottle of frankincense essential oil and breathe it in until the wheezing would stop and the flare ups kept getting further and further apart. And I'm not the only one who this has happened to. It's also been the case for my brother, my sister, and my son! Frankincense is a truly amazing and versatile medicine! Smelling of frankincense essential oil is safe for all ages.

@one.ette live this thanks hey was it just the straight EO bottle of frank, was it sacred, serrata, or carterii? That would be a very reasonable thing to have someone do!!

@lmrebert It is Boswellia Carteri from France, (Mountain Rose Herbs), and we just open the bottle cap and smell it straight from the bottle.

    You're welcome 🙂

@one.ette im sorry just one more question, did you do this when you felt an attack coming on or just on a regular basis?

Wow...I have a couple of people that I will pass this onto.

I have one question myself. If a person heated the resin the traditional way with the coal tab (as done in Saudi Arabia) or if you used the EO in a diffuser daily, could this heal in the same way?

If course, I could still see carrying a bottle for emergencies, when one was out, being a good idea.

BTW, nothing stops an asthma attack like a smoking pipe of real, honest tobacco and drinking bourbon, especially in coffee. Yes, that is a politically incorrect statement and it is not a long term solution. But, 40 years of experience proves that it works and can save a life.
