Fermented pickle question
This past summer I fermented a half gallon jar of cucumbers, onion, garlic and hot peppers. They were delicious but that's a lot and when it got cold I forgot about them. They have stayed in the refrigerator which we keep set pretty cold. I had eaten about 3/4 of the pickles but with the juice it was half full. I just noticed that I have some floating whitish pools on top, it is a very thin layer. Anyone know what this is and if they are still okay or should be tossed? Thank you!

It is kahm yeast - no problem. You can try to skim it off, but it will probably come back. The pickles should be fine to eat. But, if you wait too long, enough of the kahm yeast could grow to give them an off flavor or texture. I have a couple of jars of store bought pickled asparagus in the pantry that have kahm yeast even though sealed. It happens.
