Well, I guess it's worth a try. I've had the flu & I made myself a steam tent. Would that have the same effect? I put in some essential oils and it has really helped my lungs. I used just boiled water & they say the steam from that is hotter than the 212 degrees that brings water to a boil.

Yes worth a try. I have both a hair dryer and a spray bottle. I'm going to remember this.

Yes, the steam tent will work just grand and adding essential oils is all the better. Most essential oils are anti-viral and viruses cannot build up a resistance to them like they do with antibiotics you get from the doctor.
All you are trying to do is inhale air that is at least 133 degrees F, for 15 minutes at a time, to kill the virus. Like they said, you can even sit in a sauna.

Hi Leslie, here is a link for you to add as a new discussion, to get as much notice as poss, if you like as this topic was yours originally, and note that is was not easy to find, I first started by looking for the book, or a full vid without luck...this info you posted is outstanding and I did find feed back from people who tried this in the past..though I can't remember if it was just after he wrote the book around 1984 or more recent..Anyway here is what I found...I do not know if the site is safe as far as buying the book, but it seems to be otherwise out of print:

I recently picked up a head cold. Poured boiling water into a bowl, added 3 drops tea tree essential oil, threw towel over head. Did it 3 times for about 3 mins each time. Went to bed being able to breath through my nose and woke up the next morning feeling much better. Did it again am and pm that day and by day 3, cold basically gone. I thought it was the best way to get an anti viral essential oil intl my lungs and sinuses but also the heat does its thing as well. Good to know.

I agree. It is well worth a try. The addition of essential oil is wise. Adding tea of mint, camomile, and such is one more step to wellbeing, I think.

Using heat & humidity is what some folks believe, but we question it on this basis...China very rarely gets cold where the virus started (they have no heaters & snow is a novelty), Rio has it going on, and the Mediterranean isn't exactly cold. In Australia, you'd think that going into the outback (dry) or in New Zealand, the jungle areas (hot, moist) would cure everyone there.
Considering these things, I don't see a slow down due to summer weather. I am not even sure that this above method would work.
Now, with certain EOs, there is a remote possibility that this could be key, but false advertising is strong in this greedy industry and it can be difficult to figure out what is true. I have been reading that tea tree EO is good for bacteria, but not necessarily viruses. I would think that using specific strong antiviral herbs for use in a steam would be the way to go. Rosealee (Torey's post) has some great suggestions, which I plan on trying to get.
Sorry to he a bummer, but we have to be careful to analyze what we are taking in info wise...from both sides. Ironically, it seems like the wild west is strong & healthy!

An essential oil that is a very good antiviral is Ravensara aromatica. I have not sourced it in years as I have some but it would be a good one to do the steam inhalation with but always go easy on essential oils. Use only one drop in the bowl of hot water. A good thing in my mind would be twice a day, morning and evening, for prevention if you are considered at risk. If you have the virus (or even the flu) I would do it three or at max four times a day, evenly spaced out.

@LaurieLovesLearning I"m glad you speak your mind/heart. Often times much wisdom comes from those not afraid to speak based on individual wisdom. After all that is what we are all here for as a community. The knowledg base is much deeper for everyone the more aspects of topic brought to light.
I"m wondering if the heat thing is because it advocates real warm/hot as in didn't it say 133 degrees? And very dry heat. Although personally I don't see myself tolerating that kind of heat anywhere least of all close to my eyes, but warming the facial sinus with intermittent cooling water spray with the heat to tolerance might collectively weaken the virus to the point of collapse or at least weaken it enough that the immune system could conquer it much faster?

I have a facial steamer from the 80s that still works great. It has a little stainless steel reservoir for the water and I have added various herbs and essential oils over the years. The whole family uses it for allergies, colds, flu, headaches and such. I can't believe it is still going strong. I wish I still had the box so I could get another.

Anyone taking vit d3 ie, not sunshine.. must take vit K 2, not K 1. Otherwise calcium in the bone that is liberated by vit d3 does not get allocated as necessary and winds up in place that becomes dangerous to the heart/arteries and toes/gout poss.

@nksunshine27 interesting, I've never heard that. I think the danger would be in using too much essential oil with it. Using one drop as I suggested should be safe. I've done that numerous times over the years and have been taught that in my aromatherapy classes. But if someone is concerned they can use dried herbs. The results will be different though due to the essential oils being so concentrated. By all means we should all do the research from trusted sources, make sure the oils we buy are from a reputable sources and then apply our intuition and common sense lol.

Our family has used the bowl of boiling water with essential oils and a towel to make a steam tent for years. It is extremely effective. Great topic and excellent suggestions!

I also have talked to doc jones who is a veterinarian and i'm currently doing his school but he says that essential oils around dogs and cats are causing liver toxicity and killing them. just so you are aware.

@nksunshine27 That is correct. This is another reason to consider whole herbs. Nothing is concentrated.

That is so true about dogs and cats. I've also read that bird are VERY sensitive to essential oils and they should not be used to treat them. Unless we live alone with no pets we have to consider it ALL lol. I'm even more cautious since watching the segment with Dr. Jones - I had no idea that had become a problem. But thinking about some of the extremely dangerous (in my opinion) ways that some people and companies are recommending using essential oils I shouldn't be surprised. When in doubt, leave it out lol.

About a month ago, I too came across information saying not to use essential oils with, or diffuse them around cats. I've been using the oils for about 3 years and this was the first time I heard about this issue. Of course, I don't have any pets, so I wasn't looking for that kind of information, but I'm still surprised I didn't come across it sooner. So, thank you again, @nksunshine27 for letting us know.

I have done the towel and boiling water a couple of times a day to get rid of head colds and that works well. ZINC and 1000 mg of Vitamin C and 5000 of D3/K2 are really important to avoid Covid or make it milder . I talked to my grandparents about flu of 1918 and neither family got that flu and they used an old Scottish trick in their town of drink water every 20-30 mins and drinking plain hot water or tea every hour. Grandmother's father was the postmaster so saw everyone in town at least once a day but no flu. Also a humidifier would help keep up the moisture. I am making cotton masks. They work 99% because they are training you to just keep your hands off your face and remind you to wash your hands again when you take it off after grocery shopping or whatever. Wash metal doorknobs too as viable 9 days on metal and 3 days on cardboards. The masks work like magic to get that social distancing habit going too. Made 60 so far. This Covid is not going away quickly but maybe the masks will help us flatten the curve so less hard on the hospitals and patients.

I can't see the link either! what I have picked up from Medcram.com is the anecdotal evidence from the 1918 flu pandemic, that hot baths and cold baths help to stimulate the innate immune system. Search on youtube for all their Covid resources. The guy's a real doc, a pulmonary specialist and is treating covid patients himself in ER. he also looked at the incidence of deaths in Finland where they practice sauna and cold snow routine - their death toll is lower than othe scandinavian countries where the practise is not as widespread. Worth considering as hot shower and cold shower can be done in many homes - you dont need a sauna/bath per se. Have a look at the vid and see what you think. Certainly can't do harm. Unlike supplements and fish tank cleaner!! best of luck everyone.
Regarding the zinc, it has to be IN the cell to mess with cov 2 and that's what theyre using hydroxychloroquine for - it opens up the cellular pathway. Unfortunately it can have very serious side effects. Quercetin also has the same action - that is found in RASPBERRY leaves!! Low/no cost, whole plant based medication folks. Have no idea what the portion size should be, but often it's a simple as what you can manage to each in a sitting? Others might be able to chime in on that. We're adding leaves to our salad greens.
