Wow two awesome recipes. Thawing the chicken for chick and dumplings!!
The tater recipe looks fast, easy and really good with a red onion and some garlic!
Can't wait to try it.🦋

@silvertipgrizz I should add that I use butter, not shortening.
It is fast, easy, easy to alter & tasty. We like carrots or parsnip added. Garlic might overpower. This soup is generally a bland soup, but make it what you want!

@LaurieLovesLearning Comments much appreciated. I'll go easy on the garlic, maybe 😁
Is this what Paska is? Is it easy to make cause it sure looks good.
Going outside now to start my 'air pruning' containers and various other garden tasks..I'm so excited it's sunny and warm outside and my garden is yelling at me...

@silvertipgrizz It is the Ukranian version. I will post a Mennonite one that we use. It is most likely that the Mennonites added this recipe to their repertoire while they were in the region of Ukraine.
Of course, they vary too. I do not use "honey pails" and I don't use tomato juice or ketchup tins due to BPA & the outside paint, if painted. So, I forego the traditional shape & just put it in regular loaf pans.
It tastes nice toasted, but you have to be careful not to burn it. I cut down on the bread's sugar a little, but not too much...maybe to 3 cups? It is an Easter treat, after all.
We don't do a spread, but a thick glaze make with icing sugar, milk & homemade lemon flavoring.

@Laurieloveslearning This recipe takes me back to the old days where long days of productive hard work and the closeness of family and friends made very resilient peoples, and appreciative of what they had.
Reminds me of an article I read years ago about how jello was made before there was refrigeration.
I can't remember much about the article except something to the effect that they would mix it like we do and then put it in a container that would keep it clean and they buried it in some kind of pit where the temp was cool enough to make it palatable....Anyone remember how they did it?
Thanks for posting this.
Do you know how to make hallah? I'm prolly spelling it wrong. I have a couple recipes for it but have not made it, primarily because I want to be able to braid it so it looks like it's supposed..lol. Would be lovely on a nice platter surrounded by fresh veggies just out of the garden. Unfortunately I love bread, butter and honey and some breads are so pretty the way they are braided or twisted ....

@silvertipgrizz I don't know how to make hallah.

@Laurieloveslearning You wanna the recipe?🦋

Is is Challah, the Jewish bread? That would be nice!
Make sure you give it it's own post to make it easier to find! 😉 I should have done that with Paska. 😏

Ok, I will. Give me up to a couple of days as still behind the curve in the garden. so much so I didn't get to make your butter soup I think is what you called it.
Note that one of my recipes is authored by a lady who is Jewish and the book is on jewish cooking so it looks pretty true to history, if I'm remembering correct. I collect and use way too many references, if too many references was possible...
