asparagus crop failure
I am wondering if anyone is experiencing what we are in the Mid-Atlantic region of the US. I cannot find asparagus anywhere, including my own yard. Our old bed has nothing, the volunteers are non-existent and my new bed which seemed to hold a lot of promise has a few spindly stalks. If that was all, I'd think it was just me, but I've been to every farm stand I can think of and they haven't even bothered to open (farm markets are deemed essential in NJ). I called one organic farmer in the area and she told me that she goes out to the field every day and has only seen one stalk. Two years of hard work are gone.
We did have an exceptionally mild winter. I am wondering if the voles never bedded down for the winter and lived off of asparagus roots. Does anyone have any ideas?
