I'm Dropping Out of Sight For About a Week

Just wanted to say that I'm in the final packing stage for moving over the weekend, and you won't hear from me until probably mid-week when I get my internet installed.
Don't worry, I'll be back...

Best wishes!

Hope it all goes well for you!

I should be packing, but I am trying to clean out the freezer and decided to make a quick blackberry crisp with the last of last season's berries. So, I'm waiting for the oven to cool so that I can clean up the mess that I made when it overflowed.

Take care and hope the move goes well!

Good luck and hope this move is to your forever spot. Stay safe

Hi everyone. I made it to West Plains, MO, safely. My sister is a great driver. The cat (Eliza Jane) did really well. She had a front row seat in a crate in the middle of the cab. Sometimes she liked to look out the window. She traveled quietly, and was easy enough to stick back in the crate when we got ready to leave the motels in the morning. Sammy (the dog) got really anxious while I was packing, and the vet OKed giving him a double dose of his phenobarbital until I got here and settled. So he was pretty drugged up the entire trip. However, it made travel much easier with him. He's generally a bouncy dog. Mostly, he slept until we stopped, would wake up long enough to take care of business, and then back to sleep when we were back on the road.
We ran into hard rain and crazy winds across Idaho and the little corner of Utah that we took. Woke up to a little snow in Wyoming, and beat the 8 inches of snow in Laramie by a few hours. And missed a tornado in Nebraska by less than an hour. Otherwise, things went smoothly, and gas was never over 2.17 a gallon.
Just got my internet here at the apartment this morning, and this is the first place I checked in. I'll be returning to what passes for normal now and you will see me here often!
It means so much that everyone has been watching for me to come back. Thanks for caring!

Congratulations on a successful move.

On the move here also, a neighbor of 85, former air force of Canada, also weight-lifter-body-builder, super fit (now has gout), he says: 'Wish I cld buy patience, I need some'! There was some swearing in my family when I did move some 6 years ago, we just had to recover and see calm restored...after a while! Glad u c this as an adventure -it surely is!

Hi, Mary. I'm new here but I see you are quite popular - you were very missed! Glad you trip went well and that the "kids" managed it well, too. I look forward to reading your posts!

@kchiarini Thank you! I'm getting settled in and hoping to find a job this coming week. Then I will be free to pay more attention to the forums. I'm really looking forward to sharing some stuff as I relearn my Missouri birds and plants. (Mammals are way easier for me to remember.)
Welcome to the forums!

Good luck finding a job! You chose a very interesting time to look for one! :) I look forward to reading your posts.
When I visit my friend in Chesterfield, MO, I am amazed at all the incredible birds! We don't have them here in NY
-
@kchiarini well, this move (to be near my 81 year old mom and my sister) has been planned since the first of the year. I told them at my old job that I was moving, and so once that job eneded with the end of the school year, I was kind of committed to the move. And there are way more jobs to apply for here than there was back in rural Idaho. Plus, I have this window of opportunity where those on unemployment don't want to lose the extra money. I'm ready to go to work now!
-
So happy that everything seems to have gone well for you.
-
@Mary Linda Bittle you said it there - "where those on unemployment don't want to lose the extra money." I can't tell you how many people I have heard say they are going to milk it for all it's worth. A neighbor of ours was working on the KS site of KC and was furloughed because of the virus. He was drawing $1200 a week!!!! between the state and federal unemployment. He has since changed professions and works for about half that amount a week now. Starting July 1 MO requires verification of job searches for those drawing.

Well, I finally got a job offer today! I'll be working in food services at the local hospital. Less money than I'd like, but it's full time, and I've put in around 150 applications since I landed here in June. I can keep my apartment! It's only about a mile to work. The benefits package is really good.
I am so very relieved! And now I'll have time to write since I can drop the full time job of applying for jobs.
God is good.

Enjoy your new house!
