Thoughts on pasta machines?
I LOVE home made, fresh pasta. Is there any reason why I shouldn't continue to use a rolling pin for small batches at home?

If you are comfortable making pasta by hand, continue to do so. You will save money and not have to store another appliance.
-
The only thing you may be missing are the tools to make the fancy shaped pastas. A specialty tool would help with those.
-
Agreed. Otherwise...keep on doing it the old fashioned way! Don't let your family loose that skill!

As was stated above unless you want to make the fancy shapes or have arthritis or other hand issues, the pasta machine is just a fancy gadget. Knowing how to make pasta "by hand" is much more valuable skill. And with a couple simple and more versatile tools you can make several shapes by hand as well. Such as bow tie pasta. If you have a pie crust tool the makes the kind of "ruffled" edge cut, and a couple chopsticks or something similar to make the narrow pinch. This fella uses some simple equipment mostly and makes a lot of types of pasta. https://thekidshouldseethis.com/post/how-to-make-29-handmade-pasta-shapes-with-4-types-of-dough

@vickeym That is quite a website! We will have to check it out further. I know it's not noodles, but the steel track marble run will be a subject that will most likely get explored at our house.
@judsoncarroll4 Unless you want to consume oodles of noodles and have flour everywhere like there is no tomorrow, and have to clean yet one more thing, stick with making pasta by hand.

Yes, I will be looking at that video more as well. Did not get the chance to watch the whole video. Just knew thay did some hand made pasta that was interesting to see.
-
Well, I definitely don't want one more thing to clean - to that cinched it! Thanks for the feedback, y'all. I'm super happy with flat noodles!

The only thing I would add is with this mechanic pasta rolling gadgets from the Italian store I tend to get thinner sheets of pasta than if rolling by hand.
Not talking about the fancy blinky shining electric pasta maker here.

I love making pasta! I make mine by hand, but I also have a machine that works nicely! If you want to continue to make it by hand, watch this series of youtube videos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HesHan-wu0k It's called Pasta Grannies and each video is 3-4 minutes in length. You'll be inspired to make all sorts of pasta by hand!

Love the Pasta Grannies!

@judsoncarroll4 thank you for bringing up this topic. I have always wondered if a pasta machine would work well or just be another machine to find a place to store. I agree with you hand rolling would be better.

Thank you for the video suggestions! I enjoyed watching and hopefully will try some of these shapes.
