Revolution Garden - James Fry - Did anyone else try it?

I just invested

in James fry Revolution Garden System: That I saw on the Homegrown food summit. 

I did do it cheaper than he suggested using my kids old swimming pool for a nutrient tank. And I found 2x3 x6” Black plastic cement mixing bins to use for the grow beads. At 13 each Much cheeper than the Bonticare flood and drain beds 4 x2 x 6” and 60-70 $ each. 

so Ive found that rather liberating. Really does use so much less water and no daily water. I like better that my growbag crops that dry out so quickly. 

So its an investment to grow food in the high desert. and just want to maximize what were growing.

Hi, Can you please tell me more about the Revolution Garden System. Is it ebb and flow into a soil mix? or is it several layers with soil on top?

So almost a month since the last post - happy to show the progress:

I had two zucchini transplants in the same container. This one I planted in the rich compost under the wood chips. Seems to be doing pretty well for five weeks in.

This is its twin from the transplant container. About 4-5 times its size. With one good size zucchini so far.

So feel like it was a huge success!

Its James Fry’s system. He charges 99$ for the plans, and how to do the organic fertilizers for the soil and nutrient tank. Its an ebb and flow combined with soil. Its worked very well for me. Creates a lot of oxidation of roots and steady hydration of soil. I followed the principles of the plans, but used what I had on hand for some of it. Like using my kids old hard sided pool for the nutrient tank. So was really trying to keep costs down from how he had it set up. Ebb and flow grow beds can be expensive too, Bought one 6 by 4 ebb and flow, that fit the Nutrient tank (Hard sided old kids swimming pool) well.

And found some other (concrete mixing bins 2 x 3 plastic bins for use. Instead of the usual 2x 4 ebb and flow grow beds.

So he does have suggestions of how to customize the set up, while still following the principles.

And the how do the nutrient tank I think also makes for the success. Vs the usual expensive or non-organic hydroponic nutrients.

James Fry's Revolution system presentation at the 2020 Homegrown Food summit was one of the first thing I watched when there were two or three free videos each day. It is what prompted me to pay $80 for the ability to download all summit talks, and to join this website. I definitely plan on eventually buying his system, especially now that I know people here are having such great results with it.

Did you end up setting it up? Im working on setting up a lower weight system for my flat roof. Excited to get it going.

@AngelaOston Your photos are amazing! I love that you are finding ways to create your garden area and supplies needs at a lower cost. I have always had the thought that if you save on supplies, you spend it on seeds or plants ;)
