I am about 3 away from my 1,000th post! In the immortal words of Minnie Pearl "Somebody say howdy to me!" Say something nice... or not... actually, I love a good humorous insult (where I come from, picking on people is a show of respect and fondness, if done in the right spirit)... so, bonus points to anyone who replies to this with some good natured snark! Maybe give me a good Groucho Marx one liner... BTW, I heard a good old Emo Phillips joke the other day, "I was walking down the road, and there were some guys working on a roof. One of them called me a paranoid weirdo, in Morris Code..." He followed that with, "The other day.. well, I couldn't believe it! I saw my old friend from third grade... little Jimmy! I ran up to him and slapped him on the back. I said, 'How are you you old son of a gun?' But, he began to cry.... Then, I realized, Jimmy would have grown up too..." But, Emo couldn't beat Groucho. When Groucho hosted a gameshow, a contestant was a lady with 15 kids! She told him, "Well, I love my husband." He replied, "Lady, I love my cigar... but I take it out oof my mouth occasionally... Keep laughing y'all! Life is too short to be serious. ;-p

Awesome! So... a man walks into a bar with a frog on his head. The bartender askes, "Hey, where'd you get that thing?" The frog answers, "Well, it started out as a wart on my bottom..." (my favorite joke my grandfather told me... and my 1000th post!) BTW, had I known you'd reply, @kbmbillups1 I would have posted B52's "Love Shack"... old school Athens, GA cool!

@judsoncarroll4 memories, saw the B52's at an outdoor concert in Australia, they were awesome! Love REM also, only the other day had them cranked up on Spotify.

They were Athens, GA bands. I went to college there and worked in a little guitar shop that specialized in finding odd, old instruments, pedals and amps. It was pretty amazing to be sitting on an amp, playing music 8 hours a day, while legendary musicians from those bands drifted in, plugged in and played impromptu jam sessions! If you get a chance, check out "The Hindu Love Gods".... that was REM, minus Stipe, with Warren Zevon singing lead!!!!! In my rarely humble opinion, that was the best album of the 1990s... it got no radio play except for their cover of Prince's "Raspberry Beret" , and went straight tot he cut out bin back when there were still record stores.... not surprising for a singer whose most famous line was "I saw a werewolf of London last night... and his hair was purple"... few people realize just how clever he was. I picked up the CD for $1 and wore it out! It was a very fun time and a really awesome place to be. Beyond the music though, the food was amazing... fried chickens ad Weaver D's "Automatic For The People", catfish at Charlie Williams' Pinecrest, the buffet at the Blue Willow.... well, all that must be as foreign to you as Aussie culture is to me, but the music and food were the best and the girls were jaw-droppingly, knee bucklingly pretty.... a place and time that will always live in my memory, perfumed with magnolia, honeysuckle and gardenia... a place where people of violently differing religions and politics could sit and have good natured, respectful conversation over a beer or coffee... where we all cheered together for our teams... as close to paradise as I could ever image and will ever be in this life. But, in the words of my fellow Appalachian native, Thomas Wolfe, "You can't go home again." And no, this has nothing to do with the regular topics of The Grow Network... but the first garden club in America was founded in Washington, GA, just a few miles from Athens... and I learned horticulture and food science at UGA.

Wow the talking heads- blast from the past. That video is slightly alarming now that I'm grown😳. It's funny to listen to that stuff and realize they wouldn't have a chance in a million now of becoming famous. 😂

No doubt about that... but even Paul McCartney said the Beatles would have no chance now.... no live music venues in which to hone their craft, no independent record labels to give a new a band a chance and no independent/local radio. The internet was supposed to give everyone a platform.... guess google had other plans... But yeah, The Talking Heads were decidedly odd. So was Television, Patti Smith and many others... Devo or the Ramones (my favorite Punk band) or even The Sweet would never be heard now... but neither would George Jones, Willie Nelson or Waylon Jennings or Janis Joplin or Louis Armstrong. Forget about The Velvet Underground, The Stooges, the Modern Lovers or Parliament/Funkadelic... There is just no place for original music now. At least there was a time when there was.
