Gorgeous...do you have an entire garden/yard of these?
I'm envious...mine never do very well. Usually the hot and humid weather does them in.

@Nancy Carter thank you for sharing that amazing photo. It's stunning. I also plant sunflowers, I get a variety of kinds, different colors and sizes for my own entertainment. I live in the South East, we get very strong, hot sun, so I plant them within my gardens and raised beds to provide some shade for the annual plants. I have lots of critters who don't mind the harvest, including myself.

How lovely!! I love the variety of colors. I have not planted sunflowers, but they are on my to-do list when we retire!! May be coming back and asking for some hints!!

I planted some for the first time this year...way late, but they're growing. I planted a few varieties of them after watching my dad's last year. I l love your idea @moreyshadypines of using them to provide shade for other annuals. My dad's sunflowers are over 8' tall and certainly provide some shade.

@greyfurball I only have a few sunflowers. The birds have planted them randomly around the garden! They are very bright and joyful!!

@Nancy Carter The birds have planted a couple for me too, out in the dry desert. I hand watered them yesterday hoping to help them survive our 108 degree weather.

@moreyshadypines your sunflowers are gorgeous!!!! I love the idea of including them in the garden to provide shade for the annuals!! Last year the birds dropped so many seeds an entire area grew up with approximately 50 sunflowers! It was beautiful and a neighbor knocked on my door to see if I wouldn't mind if she photographed her daughters senior pic! It was so sweet.

I have been looking for the sunflowers that grow wild along I-5 in California. Last year we saw them everywhere except in the rest areas where we stopped hoping to gather some seeds. Anyone know about them?
