Can you plant peach or nectarine trees near almond trees?
I have three almond trees in our orchard. I'd love a couple of nectarine or peach trees on our property, but I read a paper somewhere stating that if the peach or nectarine pollen drifts to the almond flowers, the resulting almonds will be bitter and inedible. Does anybody know if this is true? I have three apricot trees in the orchard as well, but have never read anything about apricots spoiling almonds. This will be the first year we've had almonds to harvest, as I'm hoping I didn't make a mistake with planting apricots, too. Anybody with experience mixing almonds with peaches, nectarines or apricots?

What did you end up finding out? I want to plant a peach next to our almond as well.

Hi @dalyn.platt. Welcome to TGN's forum.
Lucky you, and @Suburban Pioneer, living where you can grow almonds.
In a few isolated microclimates in our region you can grow hardy shrub apricots but not peaches or nectarines or even tree apricots. Certainly no almonds.
I found this article at Utah State University that seems to think it is OK to use peach as a pollinator for almonds, although almonds flower earlier than peaches so it may not work. Its a good article about almonds.
