Seeds from China

Hi yall, so I have been seeing more "official news" covering the mysterious seeds from China. I am wondering who here may have received some and if you did, did you plant them?
*Please do not post about politics in this thread. I am curious to who has received them, how widespread it appears and what may have grown for those who planted them.

@Ethereal Earth What are you talking about? I am totally unaware of mysterious seeds from China, but you have piqued my curiosity. Please tell us more. I am sure that I am not alone in not knowing about this. (Then again, I have been wrong about many things, so maybe I am alone??)

Curiosity piqued here too!

@tomandcara and @Ruth Ann Reyes unlabeled seeds have been showing up in people's mail in bags marked stud earrings. I am in quite a few gardening/homesteading groups and many people have gotten them without purchasing them or when purchasing seeds through Amazon. Some have been able to identify seeds to what they believe to be flowers but I am unsure how many people have received them.
-
@Ethereal Earth Thank you for the clarification. I actually ordered some seed from China in April on Amazon. Purple Sweet potato seeds. The never arrived and I had to ask for a refund. I did get the refund, but I would have rather had my seeds.
-
I don't think I would plant anything that came packaged like that. Why would it be marked as earrings? I would be concerned that it would be a noxious weed or least GMO. There is no return address or is it included in something that you ordered?
-
@Ethereal Earth I just saw this on a news site. I am not sure if you're in Virginia, but people there are being told to not plant the seeds and to report them. https://www.13newsnow.com/article/news/local/virginia/officials-virginia-residents-should-report-any-unsolicited-packages-from-china-that-contain-seeds/291-f280c38b-61a6-40c0-a2ac-080a1ea9f894?utm_source=wnd&utm_medium=wnd&utm_campaign=syndicated

I received some seeds from China a couple of weeks ago. Other than my name, address, and the word, "China" there were no identifying marks on the packages. I have no idea what plants are to grow from these seeds, but am not going to plant them just to find something invasive growing that I can't even identify. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to dispose of them properly?
-
Seems the mysterious seeds from China are showing up in several states now: Kentucky, Virginia, Utah, Texas. It is being recommended to send them in an airtight bag to your state agriculture office.
-
This is a fantastic question! I hadn't even considered the fact that, even if they end up in the garbage, they could end up growing at the dump. To me, this whole thing raises all kinds of red flags!
-
It's such an odd thing to find random seeds in the mailbox. I've not gotten any, but also saw several different state agriculture departments issuing warnings.
-
I'm not sure what these are but my neighbor got a package. It was given to Dept of Ag and we have no idea what it actually was. Maybe they will tell us in a few weeks.
-
This is an interesting take on it from someone inside China:
There are many reports of the packages being sent out to the US and now it seems in the UK under the practice of "brushing" basically trying to boost sales numbers by sending out phony orders. Unsure why they picked seeds and why only certain states are getting them.

@Merin Porter @Mary Linda Bittle @tomandcara @Gail @frogvalley @Ruth Ann Reyes @Ethereal Earth @KimWilson @Cherlynn
Burn them.
This is what MSM posted sometime since yesterday.
This is a 3ish min vid that explains in part this issue, still not clear but poss a False Flag... and as an excuse to steal our right to grow our own from seed or otherwise.
Btw, this man is extremely reputable.

The article says to report this to your state's Department of Agriculture. I have also read in other articles that the seeds could be GMO Wheat. Whatever they are, don't plant them.
-
The pictures that I have seen posted are most definitely not wheat...but maybe there are more types being sent out?
-
@LaurieLovesLearning From the various pictures I have seen there are multiple types at least 4-5 that have been sent out from what I have gathered.
-
@naomi.kohlmeier The TV news in Denver Colorado also says don't burn them, but contact the Department of Agriculture. THey emphasized don't throw them away as there is a risk the seeds could end up growing somewhere.
-
An article from Purdue hypothesizing on the seeds. They are thinking they are invasive species that could disrupt our local agriculture as it is currently.
-
I saw a warning not to plant the mysterious seeds, as they may be invasive. Nobody I know received them. Curious.
-
Think this may be helpful to leave here just in case someone needs to call. It'd be better to call the state Dept of Ag but I can't post all of those without spending a lot of time.

Yes the US Department of Agriculture as well as the state departments are requesting to not open or throw out the packages as the seeds could grow in a landfill/wherever they end up. Call them and leave a message/schedule a pickup time.
-
There must be some now sent to Canada as well:
-
There are also people saying that seeds are being sent from other countries as well, though I do not have a reliable source reporting on that to link here.
-
@Ethereal Earth The link above states Taiwan as another country doing this.
-
If I were China and trying to ruin Americas farm lands I would send the seeds infected with some kind of virus or fungus for the crops, especially targeting wheat. Although the idea of "brushing" would also make sense for a company to give itself better reviews. So don't plant the seeds.
-
My unsolicited seeds came today
-
Oops, Here is the picture I thought I was posting in the prior post.
Still a little sad that I never got the seeds that I did order.
EDIT: @tomandcara I took the liberty of covering your personal information (address) on the package picture, for your safety, and reposted your picture. ~ Laurie

Mine came yesterday, labeled 'ring'. I see this packet is labeled 'jewelry'.
Quite creepy.
I was just holding on to them as I read somewhere you were supposed to turn them in for analysis, which sounds a good idea, but as yet I don't know where to send them.
-
I received the seeds weeks before I started reading about others getting them too. I did plant them in pots. My seeds looked very different than the ones I saw in the pictures...mine were tiny. I have seedlings now and am curious to identify them before killing them. If anyone has a clue, please let me know what you think they could be.
-
If it is a 'brushing' scam (as my NC Dept of Ag thinks) just to boost ratings on Amazon for the seller, then they're probably harmless. But you'd never know unless you grew them out and had them identified.
So, since tossing them in the garbage might mean they sprout somewhere, then perhaps giving them as a burnt offering would be in order.
Mars is (strangely enough) also the protector of Agriculture, in addition to his primary duties as Lord of War (must have something to do with that beating swords into plowshares idiom). Tuesday is Mar's day, so this Tuesday, light a red candle to Mars in the first hour after sunrise and make your burnt seed offering, asking him to protect our Agriculture from invasive plants, pests and diseases (and you should probably include the locust swarms moving up from South & Central America in that protection request too!)
