what is this bug and how do I stop it from damaging canteloupe

I've seen these guys in and around the garden but for some reason I though they were "good" guys lol. They may be but I need to find a way to protect my fruit/veges from the damage you see below. Super frustrating. I've planted Fairytale pumpkins and there are also still some melons on the vine and it's still producing. Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks! Oh, and I mean the bug on the right. I did not even see the one on the left until I looked at the photo lol. The size of this guy is about 1/2 an inch.

At first look it looks like a pincher bug, but I'm sure thats not correct?
Looks like an earwig to me.
I was thinking earwig but I just wasn't sure. I don't know much about them so I'll have to research them. Thanks @lmrebert and @shllnzl
