The observation is older but the research is new. Just be glad you are not a cicada, I guess.

There was an issue in Florida some years back with "zombie alligators". I think it was maybe a Nat Geo program I saw it on. There was also "zombie" animals due to a virus...lions maybe? I watch a lot of nature programs so it's hard to remember it all lol.

Yes it makes the deer act like a zombie, like only making only left turns, as it walks. I know people who saw a buck doing this they walked right up to it and turned it to the right but it went right back.

@bcabrobin Moose get this too. It is likely a problem throughout the deer family.

I am in the Ozarks and we have been experiencing chronic wasting disease in our deer population. Really tragic.

What is terrifying is that chronic waste disease could possible spread to humans through contaminated meat like mad cow disease. As far as I know this has not been tested/ observed but still frighting.
