What do you do with too many melons?

Combining the melons with apple sauce and making fruit leather is a yummy way to use extra melons!
-
Wonderful set of comments and ideas on what to do with all those melons. I cut mine in chunks and freeze them, juice them and yep---eat a bunch. Will definitely try some of the new things I have learned here. :)

"Dehydrated watermelon" almost seems like an oxymoron. I'll bet it's delicious, though! May have to try it....
-
There was a restaurant in Houston that served cantaloupe juice, and my husband always really enjoyed that. Might be something to try making at home?
-
You're welcome!

My aunt decided to cut her into cubes one year, freeze spread out on a cookie sheet then place them in another bag back in the freezer. When you just pour sliced melon into a bag and freeze you just get a big frozen ice block of fruit and juice. Which is difficult to separate and use later.
Melons definitely do not last long at our house either!

Annie Kate - I personally love your original idea of freezing and using for winter smoothies! Every winter, I miss having watermelon sooo much. I crave it and long for that flavor, the refreshing sweetness and electrolytes! It would be so nice to be able to pull that treasure out of the freezer in winter. I LOVE blending melons with berries and lemon juice, then mixing with a little kombucha for a healthy probiotic slushy/dessert. I have also been pureeing my melons and using it to make homemade healthy "jell-o" made with grass-fed gelatin.

Send them my way! Really, though, they do freeze well. And if you have chickens, they love melons.

happy-trails Ooooo good idea!

I actually had my first ever watermelon grow this year. LOL! They were about the size of a baseball (1 bite each), I am also convinced that they crossed with cantaloupe because of the interior colors, but they tasted GREAT!!!!!
-
@aurora.rebecca you actually eat the seeds? Are they good? Do you salt them, roast them, or eat them plain?
We eat pumpkin and zucchini seeds, but my mom always told me watermelon seeds would sprout in my tummy and the plants would grow out of my ears. LOL
-
Thanks @shllnzl. It's an interesting idea, and I'm writing it down to try.
-
Wow, that's a great idea, @Ferg! I've only done fondue a few times, but it's worth trying again just for this.
-
Thank you @happy-trails . The jello idea really appeals to me.
-
I’ve tried it roasted and salted.
some friends purchased some seasoned ones from an Asian food market... I couldn’t quite figure out what it was seasoned with and I couldn’t read the ingredients 😜, but they were yummy!
Guess as with most things, it’s up to your imagination and experimentation
-
Thank you, @aurora.rebecca! So both the watermelon seeds and the cantaloupe/honey dew seeds work? That would be so cool.
-
@Annie Kate and all:
-
I’ve only done it with melon and watermelon, so believe cantaloupe would work just as well
-
Yay! That is so cool! I suppose it makes sense since we eat zucchini and pumpkin seeds. Squash seeds should work, too, then, I guess.
-
The spritzer at this link looks awesome. It's feels too cold here to eat watermelon right now, but maybe a spritzer would be good after a warm supper tonight. Thank you @silvertipgrizz

@Annie Kate You're welcome of course..
