New members, please say Hello!
Hey y'all! One of my jobs as an Admin is to welcome new members.... but we don't have a feature on the forum that notifies us when someone joins. I'd love to greet each one of you, but I'm the worst of the mods at recognizing new members. In the immortal words of "Cousin Minnie Pearl"... "Somebody say howdy to me!" Please tell us where you are from and why you are here, so we can give you the celebratory welcome you deserve!

Hi! I'm Karen. I was recently blessed with the opportunity to join as a TGN street team member. I'm very happy to be here. It's an amazing forum full of people that like myself that want to learn to be more self sufficient. I have a rather large patio garden. I love to grow and dry my own herbs. I'm currently in school learning foraging and wildcrafting. I love utilizing God's good gifts of beautiful plants for their healing benefits. I love a good cup of herbal tea and I enjoy reading. I like to make DIY gifts for Christmas and birthdays. This year I'm hoping to make everyone a nice jar of home churned, herbal infused butter. I love to learn about many different things, and I've taken other classes in gardening, crocheting, cooking from scratch, canning, prepping, water wells and systems management, the dangers of genetically modified foods, vitamins and various other things. It's so nice to be part of a group of wonderful people like all of you. Thank you for having me!

Welcome! Wildcrafting and foraging is kind of my specialty - I learned from old folks when I was a kid and embrace it more and more as a lifestyle - hunting, fishing and trapping, too. Home made butter is soooooo good!!!! Being half French, compound butters are my liaison! I'm sue you'll fit right in - jump in and have fun!
-
Thank you! I'm really looking forward to learning from you guys.

Hi @karenjanicki ! Welcome to the place of learning...each person has something worthwhile to teach us all; one can never know it all (but we try lol).

Thank you!

Hi! I'm Joelle, from Florida. I am an honors lab member who is excited to learn about many things this network has to offer. I recently retired and have the time to pursue many interests I've had for a while. Some include gardening, making herbal teas and remedies, cooking, preserving food, and improving/maintaining optimal health. It's probably the norm here, but not so among my circle. I'm different, but it doesn't bother any of us. It's nice to be in a community that shares common interests too. Here's my first raised bed garden I made at my son's place in CA this past Spring to pass the time. It was a great experience and experiment. I now know some plants don't like others, some are invasive, some like more water and others don't want much. Ive learned how to harvest seeds, flowers, herbs and sometimes learned the hard way but I know better now. I'm back in FL, and will start another garden soon. Wish me luck. :)

Welcome! That is a very pretty raised bed! It is nice to be in a group with common interests and I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Hello, my name is Thomas, also from Florida! Must be a trend here somewhere! I love learning as much as I can about anything and everything, especially having to do with growing food and self reliance (in a home preparedness sense), etc..
When the email about TGN Street members went out, I volunteered - and was accepted. The best way that I have found to learn, is by helping others to learn and/or reach their goals. This is the best way for me at least!
As for personal (including my family) interests, it runs to everything - really. With a wife and children, the interests are all over the place, from growing vegetables to cattle and everything in between!

Welcome! Be sure to check out the archived articles by David The Good, and any videos available. He is in Florida... and he's one of the most impressive gardeners I've ever seen! Jump in and have fun!
-
Welcome to TGN. If you love learning, make sure you check out the Academy. Great courses for several interests.
-
Thank you! I have several of David's ebooks, and his work/videos was what originally brought me to look over the TGN. I will definitely check out his articles!
-
Thank you! I will do so!

Hello, I'm Brindy Buchanan, I am in Texas, east of San Antonio and I'm so excited to be here. I love all things gardening, canning, survival, homesteading, and natural. I haven't dabbled in herbs and foraging as much as I would like to, but my grandfather told me that is was in my blood. I guess we'll see. Gardening has always just come natural for me, something else he said that was in my blood. I have 6 kids from 18 yrs old to 1yr old. I homeschool them so I don't have a lot of free time between the farm, kids, school, and work. But, when I do have some time, I am either canning, growing or learning. Thank you for having me here!

Hi everybody! I'm Mary Lewis. I live in Minnesota, about an hour southwest of Minneapolis. We recently moved from a small town city residence to a small acreage in the country. Over the course of the last two months, everything we were doing on a small scale seems to have morphed into giant possibilities. I now have lots to do, and lots to care for.
I am a wife, a mom to 4 adult children, the youngest - my 18 year old son - still lives with us, a freelance writer, and an exhausted new puppy owner. She allowed me about 3 hours of sleep last night. LOL!
I look forward to sharing our adventures on the homestead with like minded people, and learning from other people here.
Mary

Welcome! Wow, you are one busy lady! I almost moved to the Kerrville area a decade or so ago and have family in San Antonia - what a great area!
-
Welcome! Those small projects do seem to grow! Good luck with that puppy.... my little border collie is around 12 yrs old and still keeps me awake with his loud dreaming - he sleeps on my bed.
-
They sure do! The puppy is 8 weeks old today. She is a Mini Australian Shepherd, and has never been alone a moment in her short life. She has severe separation anxiety the moment we walk out of the room. She's an adorable little love, though. Her name is Maggie.
-
Haha! I hear you on the puppies. It's like having a newborn! :D Welcome, @lewis.mary.e!
-
Cute dog! My little Buddy hates having his picture taken, but I have one good one
-
Ooo, Judson, I love your blue house! We just went through picking out new colors for our home exterior, so I have a newfound appreciation for good color combos. :D
-
It is pretty, but unfortunately it isn't mine. I was visiting some family at the beach - Buddy LOVES the beach!
-
We live in CO, so the beach isn't a regular thing for us. But there are lots of mountain streams and lakes here, and one of my dogs LOVES those. (My other one sort of "tolerates" them.) I'm so glad you and Buddy got to enjoy being at the beach. I think the sound of the waves lapping on the shore is one of my absolute favorites.

I work on a consulting/contract basis in student support for online classes related to homesteading and homemaking skills. I'm here for fun!

Hey from Vermont! I'm Wendy, and I have a small tea garden. I grow mint, oregano, lemon balm, basil, raspberry, mullein and plantain. This year I found and identified St. John's wort growing in a neighboring field. I forage for red clover, grape leaves, and echinacea.
I dry all of these herbs and have them stored for winter teas.
-
Welcome! Tea gardens are neat! I want to get one established in spring. Have fun in the forums!
-
Welcome everyone! I love how many different but same areas you'all represent; it will be so much fun exchanging information.
-
I would like to extend a welcome to all as well!
-
Hello from Northern BC. I garden in zones 3 to 5, sometimes7. I am interested in tasty organic homegrown and wildcrafted foods, gathering and growing mushrooms and in making my own medicine.

Welcome! Sounds like you are in the right place, as that is what TGN is all about - jump in and have fun!
