Chocolate Mint Fresh Roasted Coffee

Looked into growing coffee - didnt seem like my climate would allow me. But found a great wholesale source of green coffee that individuals could buy, not just professional roasters. My metal garden strainer is now doing double duty roasting my coffee in the oven.
And as I was enjoying the fresh roast, with its subtle chocolate flavor, also noticed a hint of mint in the flavor. So decided some crazy combining might be in order
Went out and picked some of my abundant chocolate mint growing around our backyard pond. Put it fresh in the bottom of the cup, and poured hot french press coffee over with a dash of milk and maple syrup. And heaven in a cup happened.
i feel sad for the poor souls stuck with artificial Christmas chocolate mint mochas at starbucks. The real thing is amazing. And never would have considered “mint tea” with coffee would work so well. Plus the mint seems to prevent any of the stomach upset coffee can create.

Great photos. Chocolate mint is my very favorite tea herb, both on its own and blended with other herbs, but I had not thought of putting it in coffee! Sounds wonderful and I will be trying that next pot. I also use chocolate mint, fresh or dried, in baking--brownies mostly, or anything chocolate, and also in smoothies. As good as it is, and as prolific as it is, I wonder what else we could be doing with it?

Now, I'm looking for Chocolate Mint starts to add to my herbal garden! Nice! Thank you for sharing.

@AngelaOston My chocolate mint died. It came complete with mealy bugs. I was thoroughly disappointed. 🙁
I too was going to do this as I thought it would be fantastic.
Heaven in a cup. I bet! 😋
If I can get more, I will certainly try doing the same.
I agree with the fresh roasted beans. There is nothing like roasting your own. The house smells so good during the process, which makes it even better!

Gosh, I did not know mealy bugs went after mint. I guess those villains will go after anything green!
But now that I think of it, I did have a hard time getting my chocolate mint established. Planted the first start in full sun, and it died. Planted the second try in a spot that got shade from about 4PM on, and it survived, just barely, but then I planted a start from that under my fruit trees and it went wild. It found the edges of the drip line and a little beyond that around the trees, where it gets sun from a little after 10 AM till almost 2PM, and that is where it seems happiest. Now five years later it has basically become the ground cover around my four fruit trees.

What a great idea and post-made my Sunday! :)

Sounds really great. I fairly regularly put mint tea in my coffee. The addition of the chocolate flavor would be delightful.

That sounds amazing!!

@AngelaOston I would love some, but because of border restrictions (Canada-US), I have to pass. I hope someone else in the US takes you up on it.
I am going to suggest that you also put a post in "Swaps" in the plants, roots, etc. section, but don't include your address directly in the post (you don't want to be spammed). Ask that members request your address for the same offer as posted above. Considering, I will be editing your address above for your safety.
You are so generous! Thank you for offering this to us.

This sounds so good! I bought ground peppermint coffee a week ago, but yours sounds so much better!
-
That sounds delicious! I would like to give that a try myself.
-
@AngelaOston would you be able to share the company you bought beans from. I would love to roast. Chocolate mint has run me out of my yard, so invasive but so loved. I made a lime cucumber chocolate mint summer cooler. Delicious!!
-
Oh good idea - ill post it in the exchange. Sorry editors about the address. Didn’t realize we shouldnt do that.

They were wonderful to deal with And the only bulk green coffee dealer i found that would sell to individuals and not just roasting companies
EDIT by Admin: Link added ;)
-
with Genuine Origin there is a minimum of buying a 65lb sack. Not a problem for me, considering my addiction! Also planning on roasting 3 lb sacks for family and friends at Christmas. So right there is worth the cost. Just have to fire up the oven now that its cold. 😃🙏

I get my green coffee beans from a place in Ontario, Canada:
I think that they will ship out of country too.
If you join their free club, you get perks, like if you've put an order in within the past year, you get free coffee beans (you pay postage, which is very little). I took them up on this once. It's a great company to deal with.

Thanks - didnt know about not putting address up - sorry about that. Now i just have to figure out where i get the personal messages at!😁

@AngelaOston It is more about your safety & not being spammed than anything. It's just a good internet safety practice.
