    @COWLOVINGIRL Jerseys are the most beautiful in my opinion too. ;)

  • Beautiful cows! I'm so glad you shared pictures. Even though I don't currently have any livestock I still love looking and talking about them 😁

    @LaurieLovesLearning Beautiful ladies. I remember the first time I saw Highlands in the mountains of TN and fell in love. If I ever have a farm, that's what I would probably get.

    Your queen is probably waiting for the next blizzard to give birth;)

    @Tave That is what we think.

    We have had unusually very high temperatures for this time of year lately...up to 8°C yesterday, but we will get a good amount of freezing rain & 5-10 cm of snow tonight (so they say) and then it starts to get very cold (in comparison to what we've been having), -16° for highs and -22° as the lows and that's without windchill.

    Winter is going to come shortly, finally. At least we will have a little blanket of snow first. We have none left.

    @LaurieLovesLearning (to the theme of "are we there yet?) Do we have a calf yet? What's she waiting for now? MMMMMMOOoooommmmmm. 😜

    @RustBeltCowgirl We are just not sure what she's waiting on. I think if I was her, I'd have evicted that little one already. 🤔

    I guess that we learned that even if a cow hasn't taken repeatedly in the past, it's not like miracles can't happen. Keep track of days in with a bull anyway...

    Okay. We had pouring freezing rain yesterday. I've never seen it quite like that in January before! Now we have blizzard conditions (actually that warning is now ended), and it still looks like this outside where there is no shelter (as you can see, we have some shelter in the immediate area):

    There is no more snow coming down, but the winds are still high.

    Do you think that cow has had a calf? Nope. Sigh. I guess we are missing one thing...extreme cold. They say cold is coming before the end of the month though. We'll see. This is getting tiresome.

    We are also supposed to be getting more normal winter temps in the next week or so. -18C. So I predict she will choose the coldest night (or day) of that period. :)

    We have very little snow on the ground. Most of our precipitation has been rain then freezing temps. So we have lots of ice. But woke up to 2" of wet snow yesterday morning. I'm glad we haven't had the winds that the rest of BC have had, or you from the looks of your pic. Not a fan of wind unless it is on a warm summer day. :)

    Aww, sorry to hear about the calf. Very happy the mom is doing well.

    It is so hard to lose one. Yes, the what if's can drive you crazy. But you know in your heart you did all you could. Sending hugs and prayers for the whole herd.

    @LaurieLovesLearning It's Feb. 1st. Did I miss an announcement?

    @RustBeltCowgirl I am feeling silly.

    We are wondering if she has/had us fooled. But how can a cow's belly look like something is independently kicking? Sigh. We need to get her into the barn & check her further.

    She had a few body changes (including the udder) as well around the time we figured something could be up. It looked promising. We did have a change of feed (better feed) and she is also older than any cow we've had before. Maybe this is what is going on.

    We don't ever preg check. We observe & wait. Maybe we need to learn the art of the check...

    I am kind of embarrassed...but I guess nothing is ever straight forward when you have animals.

    @LaurieLovesLearning You'll figure it out! And I know what you mean about the straight forward part!
