A vicious stepmother poisoning your drink? That's one problem you don't often find remedies for in the old herbals! You wouldn't think monks would have to deal with that one much, Walafrid is surely something when he gets going! Some years back I had cause to wade through some of his theological writing....excruciating..... I never got around to the Hortulus back then, and now it is just amazing to me that this same guy could write such lively, lyrical, even playful verse. Thanks for these postings, the verses are a delight.
