On Catmint, from Hortulus

Interesting that Walafrid describes its external use. I was thinking modern herbals focus on its internal uses. And does catmint really grow all that tall? I don't have any, but I think of it as a lower-growing plant than catnip. If he was writing about catnip though he surely wouldn't be praising its sweet scent!

It depends on where it is grown. The mint family is highly varied. I have a nice patch of spearmint at my back door, in a very wet spot, that grows a foot tall. There is some apple mint up the hill in a sunny spot, that grows twice that size. We have SO many mints around here!

That’s so interesting I Had a huge catmint bush but didn’t know it had any medicinal qualities. It grows very easily.
