WINTER EVENINGS/CHRISTMAS
Who else is enjoying the long dark evenings with all the cozy lights and Christmas decorations? I know I am!

Me! I am big time. Winter is my favorite season and Christmas is my favorite holiday! I love cold dark nights and crystal clear skies and cuddling by the fireplace. :)
-
I love fall the best, but I do enjoy sitting on the couch, wrapped in a blanket, with the dog and cats at my side and a book in hand with a warm beverage at the ready.
-
@Mary Linda Bittle, West Plains, Missouri That sounds so cozy!
-
Oh I normally would enjoy the Christmas time but from this year is not the same anymore. My father died a week ago. Still trying to make the time good and enyoable for my children but it is not as joyfully as the years prior. We will have the funeral next Friday.
-
@Jens I am so sorry for your loss! I will be praying for you.
-
@Jens So sorry! It is heartbreaking to lose a parent. Even more so at this time of year.
-
I love it as well. Crisp fresh air, wearing thick comfy sweaters, hot toddies, etc and etc... I could go on forever!
-
Did you make the wreath yourself? Was it difficult?
-
I'm so very sorry for your loss :,(. I'm lifting you and your family up in prayer to Jesus for comfort and healing ❤
-
Here's a recent podcast from Melissa K. Norris about making wreaths.
-
My whole hearted sympathy for you and your family. The Christmas season always seems to be the saddest to have a loved one pass.
-
Oh thank you! I think it sounds fun to make a wreath :). I like Melissa K. Norris too. I took a gardening course she did and it was excellent.
-
@COWLOVINGIRL @torey @karenjanicki @RustBeltCowgirl thank you for your kind words.
-
@Jens you're welcome.
-
I love sweater weather! I have red lights strung around my living room, memories (ornaments) hanging all around, and enjoy a cup of tea and knitting each evening.
-
I have made homemade wreaths several years. Our community used to make them as a fund raiser, but hasn't for the past several years. Getting volunteers to come help out became difficult. Anyway, that was when I decided to make my own. Usually have a lot of evergreen branches that blow down at this time of year. I especially like the branches from the tops of the trees. They are just a bit more compact and look better. Then I walk around the neighborhood and snip a few holly branches with berries. They grow wild. I sometimes also like to add in a bit of Juniper.
At our community wreath making, we always just bent wire coat hangers to a round shape. Plus, they already had a hanger. Haven't quite got around to making my wreath for this year.
-
That makes sense using wire hangers. I like that. Maybe next year I could give that a try. How long do the natural wreaths last?
-
I love soft sweaters. I bought a few new ones this year and they are so comfortable :)
-
I hope to someday make my own sweaters!

I don't want to sound like a grinch, but this year, Christmas is kind of fuzzy. Like, Christmas to me has always been loud and bright, almost painful. So, I've gone easy on the decorating. However, being at home, safe and warm, and enjoying some down time with my family has been lovely.
-
That's one the reasons I love winter @lewis.mary.e, all the cozy family time!
-
@karenjanicki It varies by where you have it. If it outside in cool weather, quite a while, even a couple of months. I frequently will put mine inside in my living room where I can enjoy it. It needs to spritzed with water if it is inside though. Mine don't last very long, a couple of weeks or until I get tired of sweeping up the needles.
I just watched Melissa Norris's wreath making video. She uses cedar which might last better and not drop needles.
-
Yep, I love the winter evenings. And I love looking at the Christmas lights in my town as I drive home after work, even the silly garish displays.
-
I get up early most mornings, turn on the tree lights and have devotions. It's such a lovely peaceful time. Then when I get home from work in the evenings, I like to just sit in the living room and enjoy the lights and the stillness. It's so calming and restful. Right now I have a playlist of International Christmas Music playing in the background which is lovely. I love Christmas time.
-
Me too!
-
Cool! Thank you for sharing. I would like to make my own wreaths and some handmade decorations maybe for next year.
-
@Jens Sorry for your loss. We lost our neighbor this year and my child's teacher lost her husband. Sending you prayers.
Winter evenings bring soup and homemade bread, board games, fire, and knitting. It is also a time when we are planning for the coming year and most farmwork has slowed. We only have a month before we need to starting pruning, so this is a special time of year with family.
We usually have a gingerbread party where we decorate with friends--next year we hope! We also like to make fire cider and tea to keep us heathy and warm.
-
@Jens I'm so sorry for your loss! No words can express my feelings, as this is my first Christmas without my
Dad. It must be even harder for the loss to be at this time of the year. Prayers for you and your family.
-
I'm so sorry for your loss @Jens . No matter when your loved one departed, it's especially rough at this time of year. Please add my thoughts and prayers for your family to others who reach out with such love and compassion.
-
@Acequiamadre that sounds so fun! I really like the gingerbread part! I need to do that!
