Oh boy...my credit card took a hit
I need more sock yarn like I need the proverbial hole in the head.

I used to crochet a little bit. Simple things like a few scarves and dishrags. I wanted to learn more complex things but I have trouble just learning this from books and videos. I wish I had someone who could teach me in person.

@karenjanicki In "normal" times, our library offers knitting and crochet groups. Anyone is welcome to come and bring their current project. More experienced knitters or crocheters are available to help. Hopefully, these things will start up again soon!
-
@RustBeltCowgirl I can NEVER have enough yarn!!
-
Oh I am so with you'all lol! Pretty sure I start salivating when I see a pretty yarn 😂. I really enjoy crocheting.
-
Is there a brand of yarn that doesn't use artificial dye or chemicals to set the dye?
-
@frogvalley I'm not sure. I think you'd almost have to go with someone who dyes independently. I'll see if there is a major company that doesn't.
-
Thank you @RustBeltCowgirl . I don't know where to start looking or the vocabulary to use as this is all new to me. Good idea about independent dyers. I'll see if I can find someone around here.
-
@frogvalley Or the other alternative, learn to do it yourself. There are plenty of companies that sell "base" (undyed white/cream) yarn. A lot of independent dyers are upfront as to who they use as a base yarn for their dyeing.
-
Thank you @RustBeltCowgirl ! I never knew about "base yarn." Hopefully, I will have the herbs to color the yarn next year and the time to do it. Let the learning begin.
-
@frogvalley I would suggest trying this company.
They also dye. They purchase their base from Brown Sheep Yarn. I specifically did not put you on the dyeable yarn page to give you the fun of scrolling through large amounts of good stuff.

There is a group like that near us too :). I had wanted to join it this year and then covid hit. I don't think they've done it for awhile now sadly. But God willing things will open up again soon. I think that sounds like alot of fun :). Merry Christmas!
-
Oh, I need to get my knitting out for this current lockdown. Great idea!
-
I love knitting and crocheting. I am a firm believer that you can never have too much yarn.
-
I usually buy cotton yarn when it's on sale and crochet washcloths during the winter months, but I didn't buy any this year. Settling into our new home just didn't leave me any time.
Come to find out, people who have received washcloths as Christmas gifts from me missed them this year. So, I'll be watching for the next sale!
-
Sounds like we all have an addiction problem!! I can't pass up a yarn sale, drives my poor husband insane!! But he loves me!
I love crocheting and doing better with it. I know the basics of knitting, but would love a mentor! I am currently perfecting the loom knitting. I enjoy it, but am thinking it takes longer than hand knitting.
Can anyone tell me if that is true or not?
-
@ltwickey not really sure. Have never gotten into loom knitting.
-
@frogvalley here's another natural dyeing link
-
Thanks for sharing. This is really cool - something I'll have to try one of these days.
-
@RustBeltCowgirl What a doll you are! I love The Spinsters Academy! You are so right - it's a lot of fun to look around The Sheep Shed Studio website!
The All Natural Dyeing page had so much information that I hadn't considered before. Way cool! I'm going to be spending snow days dyeing something.
The Spruce Crafts page is so pretty and yummy. I wanna do that.
Many thanks.

@frogvalley One more link. I figured that i would check my medieval reenactment links. Have fun browsing through these.
Since they didn't have all the crazy chemicals we have now, you should be reasonably safe in regards to your allergies.
-
Oops, that didn't work well. you'll need to use this link and put dyeing in the search box.
-
Wow! @RustBeltCowgirl What a treasure trove! I could spend weeks on that last site alone. It's all such fun. Thank you.
