Chickens and toxic plants

    Thanks for the info. I don't have chickens, but I do have a parrot, so I always read up on dangers to birds.

    Most of these I knew about, but a couple surprised me--I didn't know about the raw beans and bean plants for instance. But one I wonder about--acorns. Acorns are a major part of wild turkeys' diet around here, so it's surprising that these would be harmful to chickens. Chickens are much smaller though, so that might be the difference--in fact, I'd be more worried about a chicken choking on an acorn than actually swallowing it! Still this list is a good reminder to be aware and careful of what plants your chickens can get at. Thanks for posting

    @RustBeltCowgirl Thank you very much for the article. I am planning to buy a few chicken this summer and I thought that chicken know themselves, which plants are poisonous for them and which not. It seems not the case, so I have to be very careful, as my garden is full of those poisonous plants.
