    I just thawed out some beef stock... may do French onion soup or something with ginger, mushrooms and spinach. Any suggestions?

    Nice! Soups are the perfect way to get herbs in your diet. My mom always drank the pot liquor when dinner was over.

    Very appropriate for the weather we are having!

    I love borscht. In southern BC there is a community that has a large Russian Doukhobor population. One of the hotels in the area became quite famous for the borscht they served. It burned down a few years ago but I don't know if another restaurant has it on the menu or not. I have the recipe!

    If you are having French Onion Soup, try a wee bit of grated apple when you add the stock (and wine) to the onions. I worked at a fairly high end resort that had FO soup on the menu and it had apple in it, along with the brandy you mentioned, added right at the end to finish it. Yummy!
