Lighter Weight Cast Iron Frying Pan
I am looking for a lighter Weight Cast Iron Frying Pan. What brands do you recommend looking at and where would be a good place to look?
I have used Cast Iron Frying Pan's before but the heavier weight ones I cannot lift.
@LaurieLovesLearning I know that it is important to have the right tags but my brain isn't able come with any good tags!

@dipat2005 It may be a pet peeve of mine, for a few reasons, but if I check a discussion, I try to remember to check on tags. I just can't get to all of the discussions!
For this one, since it is about cast iron, "cast iron" is perfect. "Brands", "lightweight", & "fry pan" would also be good. Home cooking was a good one too.
On the subject of cast iron pans, the only ones that I have are heavy.
-
The cast iron I use is heavy. Even the four inch in diameter ones are heavy.
-
Unfortunately, cast iron is heavy. Makes a good weapon, though:)
-
@dipat2005 Here's an article from Taste of Home about lightweight cast iron.
-
@RustBeltCowgirl this is a great article. I also found a lightweight Lancaster Cast Iron 10" skillet for $149. Thanks again!!

It's definitely NOT light weight, but if you're able to handle heavy cast iron pans, I'd recommend Staub. It's enameled cast iron from France, and if you can get it on sale, it's a fantastic investment. It will NEVER wear out and it actually enhances the flavor of whatever's cooked in it. It cleans up like a charm and keeps warm practically forever once heated. The lids baste the food in its own juices and the results are incredible. If you love to cook - or if you're seeing the day when you're not going to be able to eat out for very long stretches of time -great cookware is a prepping must, in my opinion. I LOVE our Staub! One of our best investments ever!!!

Great question! I work in a kitchen store and we have a variety of cast iron cookware. There is a brand that I love, and while it's not a true cast iron, it cooks like cast iron and is much lighter. I have an AUS ION pan and absolutely love it.

@naomi.kohlmeier i am kind of curious as to why being date stamped is a selling feature.
-
@RustBeltCowgirl thanks for getting me to this information. I really appreciate knowing about cast iron pans that are more lightweight.
-
@RustBeltCowgirl I found this on their website:
"Our products will last a lifetime and beyond, never needing replacement, and can be passed down for many generations as treasured heirlooms. Every pan is engraved with the date of manufacture as a record for future generations. For backers of our Kickstarter launch campaigns, we also stamp our cookware as 'First Edition' - retail editions do not have that historic stamp."
-
@naomi.kohlmeier Okay, they have a legit reason for it.
-
naomi.kohlmeier Wow, those pans look fantastic. I too am having problems with the weight of my beloved cast iron. Unfortunately from what I saw on their site, these pans will forever be outside of my budget. Maybe one day they will be available used as cast iron often is. That is how I was able to get all my cast iron. But $200 give or take for an 11 inch pan is not going to fit in my budget. They look like incredible pans though.
-
@vickeym the funny thing is that under my bed I forgot about my Dutch Oven. Again it is very heavy. I might be able to get it into the kitchen. I just thought it was funny I forgot about the cast iron pan that I have moved with at least 10 times.
-
dipat2005 I do the same thing! lol I have pieces I will probably never use and others I would have been using all along had I remembered I had them and had room for them in my kitchen. I have two different types of corn bread pans. I divided one with wedge shaped compartments and one that the compartments look like an ear of corn.
I have a pan for cookies or something that are animal shapes. Not exactly sure how to get the dough to conform to the pan, unless there is a batter recipe I have not found yet. lol
My sister in law bought me an aebleskiver pan, I'm not even sure what that is but I have a pan for it. 🤪
-
@vickeym an aebleskiver is kind of like a doughnut. A recipe below
Was introduced to them by a Danish man that used to camp with us every year in PA.
-
@RustBeltCowgirl and @vickeym there are Aebleskiver's at the Scandinavian Festival in Junction City, Oregon in August (around the 2nd weekend). They are delicious and get there early because there are long lines. You also get to watch while they make them.
-
dipat2005 Sounds like fun, but I have a feeling I won't be making it there. I live about 2 hours north of Anchorage, Alaska. Haven't had a vacation away from home in at least 12 years and that was a working vacation. lol Might have to see if there is anywhere here or find a video and learn how to make them myself.
-
RustBeltCowgirl Thank you. Now I don't have to go look for a recipe. Might have to try making them.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1c3YJaex9E this is a video on how to make Ebelskivers. In f act there are few different videos on this page.
By the way the is wonderful and they do serve it with jam!
