For those of us that need more storage, you have to admit that the tiny house movement capitalizes on it. Here's a website that has tons of ideas ranging from tiny houses through skoolies/vans.

Not ashamed to grab ideas from whatever sources.

    Some really interesting ideas here.

    I have been looking at a piece of land in Ga where the house is junk bit the land is nice. I could bring in a bus or small house for next to nothing and be set to go.

    Etsy has a 2 bedroom plan for an 18X40 ft house. An 18X40 prebuilt shed costs $12,500 from the company that Dad bought our yard barn from.

    Or have a 2 car garage built and use that as the base for the house.

    In our search for property and what to do, this is one of the things we've considered in our attempt to think outside of the box, helping to give us more options to be able to afford what we're looking for. However it would have to be in an extremely limited time frame because 6 people (2 adults and 4 kids) in a small space like that would be quite difficult in the long term.😬

    However we've talked years ago, when they first came on the scene, about building a tiny house for each of our kids so that they don't have to deal with mortgage or rent when they're first starting out. And our oldest (a 9th grader) is really into the idea, especially since doing her economics class this year with our homeschool group. She also loves the idea of having a space that's all hers. But which high schooler, in the history of the world, doesn't want that.😊

    Another thought I had was that if the property we buy could accommodate 2 or 3 tiny houses, without invading into our area, I'd love to use them for Air B&B and have it help our property make a little money for us in that respect too.

    @RustBeltCowgirl

    Thanks for that info. It may help with the one property I am interested in. I have enough relatives in Ga that I can probably get a workbee set up to get a place comfortable. The place I am looking at has a shed type building on it, half finished. It has a 40 by 60 pole barn, unique style. Two rooms enclosed on that. 6 1/2 acres fenced and a ton of fruit trees and grapevines. Its close to the town I want. One other is 10 acres - but more money. With our economy I am afraid to take out loans right now.

    There are two places I am looking at that do not have enough land but one I love the house and one that has more land but the price is higher. Its in auction so I may be able to barter if it does not sell. I am getting inside photos today. It has a large greenhouse and two ponds.

    I am half tempted to buy a real cheap place, One is not actually bad, so I can spend more time looking, them just sell it or rent it out later.

    My biggest issue is I have to have a comfortable place for mom.

    It sounds like a great plan @JennyT !! There are places out there, you just have to look every day and be prepared. Good luck.

    I am thinking of doing a Air B and B with the one property. And a small place to start out with is fine for me My one place I am looking at has just over 6 acres and one 10.5. Properly managed either would make a nice homestead. those are my top choices.

    One other is in in a very small town on the outskirts. Love the house but there is only 1.2 acres. I would have to be very creative - not that it can't be done ;) I've just lived with neighbors far away for so long it would be an adjustment

    One other place is dirt cheap and not bad. I could just buy that. I could use that while working on something them sell it or rent it out.

    Its not easy looking for places

    Wow, so many options, @Denise Grant ! What difficult choices!

    @JennyT I love the tiny house idea for each of the kids!! One of ours owns a house, needs tons of fixing. Another two are considering a tiny house. And one looks at maintenance etc and is content with her beautiful apartment. Setting up a tiny house B&B is a cool idea, too.

    And I love that website, @RustBeltCowgirl . A friend of mine is moving into a tiny house in her daughter's garage, and it seems like such a lovely solution to so many problems. Thank you for starting this thread.

    My cousin sent me this a year ago. It may really be a good fit with the one property I am looking at and @JennyT this might work for you.

    @RustBeltCowgirl Thats adorable.

    For the learning center I want to have, this would be perfect

    I think a younger adult having their own tiny home would teach them a lot of responsibility

    @RustBeltCowgirl That's a cute idea. And I've seen it played out much like you mentioned @Denise Grant for your learning center. It was a bunch of tiny houses together like @RustBeltCowgirl has in the link but they were all little shops and restaurants I believe. I can't remember where it was either it was quite a long time ago. But it was very cool to see all the tiny houses. They were closed at the time we were there but it would have been nice to see their layouts.

    No, I'm thinking more distance between them. So that they might feel like you're in a cabin in the woods/at a campground of sorts. But again it will depend on the property we purchase whether or not it that will be possible.🤞😊

    There are actually 2 tiny house communities in our area. And I believe that the one company that does the making of some of these tiny houses lives down the street from my in-laws.

    @JennyT I would like to see them further apart too if they are houses but I like the hub idea with a central area .

    There are some great ideas here. I like to look at ideas and tweak them to fit what I want.

    @Denise Grant I'm the same way. Taking all sorts of ideas and combining/tweaking for what I'm wanting to do or for what would work best for my interests.
