Spring weather
Well, it is sure shaping up to be an interesting spring so far. A week ago on Friday we were seeing lows of -10. Today, we hit 63. Snow is melting so fast it is almost unbelievable. Having to run a pump in our driveway daily as the lake we are getting from all the snow melting is coming up 3/4 of the height of a milk crate at least every day. It will drain down with the pump running from mid afternoon through the night to early morning. Then we shut it off and wait for it to melt again. Still gonna be awhile before enough is gone to set up cold frames or get the cover on my greenhouse. But it is getting closer.

@vickeym I bet you enjoyed that weather and temperature.
When we have a bad winter we have that melting off issue and too much water. It adds interest to a day. Any water problems alwsy seem to happen at night at early moring when its still dark.
It sounds like you have a plan in place top help with the "fun". Good luck!

On our side of the world we are experiencing the coolest April since whatever. The trees do not dare to blossom, the bees do not dare to fly... and I have to postpone my gardening activities.
-
@jolanta.wittib I hope it improves for you soon.
We are above temps this April and below rainfall. But we have those fun cold dips like we will get tomorrow and Wednesday.
-
I so am NOT looking forward to the snow that they are predicting for tomorrow. Hopefully, the 1 - 3 inches ends up closer to Ashtabula/Erie.
-
@Denise Grant Thank you!
the cold spells are usual here too. Locals say that you do not put geraniums on balconies before “Ice Saints”: St. Mamertus, St. Pancras, and St. Servatius and that is not before May 13-15. They are called Ice Saints, because there can still be frost during the night. After May 15 plants and farmers are safe.

@RustBeltCowgirl I do the same thing, wish my snow on someone else. The higher areas will get it here, or my one brother in NY state. I am hoping for nada. My peach tress are in blossom. I would like them not to get damaged
@jolanta.wittib I love all the names you8 have for planting tips. My zone reading says May 15 but its safer at May 31 or you cover everything. The last few years our springs have been later but out falls are much longer and pleasant

We are getting snow yet again today. It isn't much so far.
We are so extremely dry. It is shaping up to be a worse summer than last year, with very little water at all in the soil. All the sloughs close by are dry & the major river, that flows through the province, is still extremely low. There was absolutely no talk of flooding this year!
-
This was my pear tree in full bloom two weeks ago, bright sun, 70 degrees--and this is my pear tree this morning, covered in snow. Grey, grim, mucky skies, 28 degrees. I know nobody ever said life is fair, but this is just SOOO not fair! 😥
-
We have gone from snow and cold to above normal temps and no precipitation. It was 24C (75F) on Saturday. Despite high water levels in rivers, creeks and lakes, it is very dry. There are currently 28 wildfires that have started this spring, mostly in southern BC.
We have buds on many of the trees but no blossoms yet. We may still get a hard frost so I am keeping my fingers crossed.
-
We have snow in ther forecast for tonight and wednesday. Hopefully not much. But I prefer a little snow if my peach trees are in bloom, which they are. The snow seems to protect the blossoms where frost just kills them
@MaryRowe Wow! Good luck with your trees
-
@MaryRowe oh what a sad picture of your pear tree. We have similar pictures of some cherry trees. I hope you will have some pears this year.
-
@torey fingers crossed. I keep my fingers crossed as well. The plums and cherries are about to blossoms and bees need blossoms! We usually have very dry spring months, thus I keep my rain water container (4000 Liters) full throughout the winter so that it is full in spring time. Usually it is enough until rain comes again. We had a lot of snow this winter, so the soil is still damp enough.
-
It's actually been very warm for this time of year here and very dry. It hasn't rained much at all which is unusual.
-
Y'all are killing me with the talk of snow. We are in the high 80s and Monday will be 93.
-
Its pouring today. The perfect excuse for a quiet less hectic day.
The temps will drop with this rain and I believe they were calling for a few snow flakes.
