Show 26: Medicinal Flowers

Great job on continuing to bring us the less known and used herbs!
Hound’s Tongue, Cynoglossum officinale is a fairly common invasive weed in the southern part of BC. It is sometimes called gypsy weed. But we also have C. boreale or Northern Hound’s Tongue which is native to BC, although not as common. It has a much more northern range and has pretty little blue flowers. Its also called Northern Wild Comfrey or Blue Hound’s Tongue.
Apparently, Cynoglossum species have recently been reclassified (thanks or not to DNA testing) and you may see them now referred to as Andersonglossum species. (I wish they’d quit doing that).
Strangely enough, I haven’t been able to find any references to medicinal uses by any First Nations in the Pacific Northwest, including no indigenous names, not even for the native species.
Viola. You are right. A medicine cabinet in one plant. Great lymph mover (one of the best). And a beautiful edible.

Thanks, Torey! I'm really having fun learning about the flowers. Most of this was new info to me.
