I am sure there will be herbalists as fascinated by Johan Künzle’ book on natural wild plants as you and me, Judson. Thank you for a nice presentation.
-
Thanks! I'm sure the book will be enjoyed by all who read it.
-
I just bought it. I can’t wait to start reading it! I’m sure it’ll be fascinating.
-
Awesome - thanks! It should be in your inbox now.
-
I'm having trouble with the link. I click on "Buy Now" and a pop-up has the book and quantity, but there's nowhere to finalize the purchase. Hmmm!
-
That is odd. Try the button at the bottom of this page: Southern Appalachian Herbs: Announcing a New Book, The Herbs and Weeds of Fr. Johannes Künzle
-
That worked. Thanks 😎
-
No, thank you! I look forward to your feedback, since you do this stuff.

This is an amazing work!!! Can't imagine why no one has done the translation prior to this. It is an extremely valuable herbal.
Congratulations @judsoncarroll4 and @jolanta.wittib on doing such a great job with both the translation and the commentary! I am very grateful that you have undertaken such a project. Great pics, Jolanta! I will be showing off a copy of this when I teach classes (when we are allowed to gather again), so expect more orders!
I have read through the manuscript but now need to go back and do a deep dive. There are herbs mentioned that I was unfamiliar with so I will be spending many hours doing more research. I need to learn much more about Masterwort. And Houseleeks. I have some in my garden but not read beauties like the ones you have shown. I would love to go walking and gathering in the Alps.
He has included veterinary advice as well so there is something for everyone in this book.
I am in agreement with both of you in not making decoctions unless it is harder plant material (roots, twigs, bark, etc.).
So far the only negative comment I have is on his opinion of chocolate. As a chocoholic, I can find many good reasons for eating chocolate! (but that is good quality chocolate, not candy bars)

@torey your review makes me want to get digging into the book asap. I have it opened but have to finish a few things before I sit down and escape in good readi8ng and research.
-
Thanks so much, Torey! We really enjoyed working the book. It has become a real go-to for me, as well. It is no wonder the book was so popular in the early 1900s. Jolanta's photos really bring it to life.
-
@torey I am so glad to hear that you like the book the same I did. And same, as you, I am planning to use it as my workshops material. I am planning a series of workshops covering the book step by step. It is an advantage, of course, that all the plants grow within reach. But most of these plants are “just weeds” in so many parts of the world and so beneficial, when one starts using them.
Masterwort is really worth exploring. Today I made mouth water from Masterwort tincture. Why buy any, when this wonderful herb is within reach. And I öfter keep a little piece of it in my mouth against sore throat, any inflammation in mouth.
This is a picture of Masterwort “tablets” - just cut and dried root and the “claws”

@Megan Venturella @Tave @Denise Grant Thank you for your support and I am looking forward to your comments! Hope you like the ebook the same @judsoncarroll4 and me do!

I have enjoyed what I read so far. I need to find out what they are in Spanish and ask the locals where to find them. It's interesting how every climate has a herb (weed) that has similar medicinal properties. It just takes patience to find out which ones they are.
-
I finally got the chance to get my copy ordered!!!!😁 Can't wait to see it!
