The joy of garage sales

This pretty much sums it up.

What was your best garage sale find?

What was one of your funny garage sale stories or road side pick up? (I slam my breaks on for those too)

I don't have any really good "roadside foraging" stories, my Dad has a lot of them. As a truckdriver, you never know what you'll see. One time, he saw a trailer's back door pop open and boxes were sailing all over the highway. Saw one slide out into the median. Jumped out and grabbed it. It was an unharmed stereo reciever. He has come home with chain saws, brand new tow chains, etc. Last pickup was a furniture dolly missing a wheel. It was waiting for trash pickup. He had a similar wheel to the missing one at home. My last grab was a tire tread that peeled off a flat tire as an intact circle. Makes a great raised garden bed.

My sister scares me to death when she's driving during yard sale season!

The whole family went to the last day of an estate sale just down the road from the house we're renting until we can close on our new place and get over there to clean, do a few minor repairs, etc. Anyway we're all thinking about the new place, wondering what can we use, what will be helpful to have.

And we find a portable/walker toilet. So we can use it to make a composting outhouse at the new place because there's has only one bathroom and it needs some work.😆

On cooler note, I was able to score some "Made In The USA" glass ink bottles. I was so excited! I can't wait to put some little fresh cut flowers in them in my new place.

All the yard sale signs I'm seeing are making me crazy! I haven't been able to go to many because of selling the house, packing, finding our next place, etc. And the estate sales have popped back up too! Heaven help me!😍

I'm hoping to go to a pre-sale tomorrow. A former co-worker getting ready to move out of state. They offered a bunch of canning jars for free if I was willing to dump contents and wash out.

Looks like I will also have the chance to get a 3 bay commercial stainless steel sink for $500. That is cheap in our state.

Actual sale doesn't start till Friday, They are letting me have a look early. Can't wait to see what else they have.

I love going "sailing". We've gotten alot of good things at yard sales. I think one of my favorite purchases though is a beautiful wooden rocking chair with ottoman.

@Mary Linda Bittle, West Plains, Missouri Some folks certainly do abandon their driving skills on those days!

We still aren't allowed any garage sales here, for at least 1 month yet. :( Usually by now, quite a few town wide sales would have been done. Those are always my favorite. I have 2 favorite town wides in particular that we try not to miss.

Once they are "allowed", I bet it will be crazy! The garage sale addicts are eager & hungry.

Considering, I am keeping a close eye on the classifieds. It isn't the same, but has yielded some good buys & freebies lately.

I don't know if I have any one item that stands out, because I generally love each thing that I buy, and it usually has a purpose. I've bought lots of recipe books and I also love old things with character.

A few things that stand out in my mind though, and the latter two were from last year. One was a water distiller that was literally a fraction of the price of new & hardly used. One was an old wooden buffet that is used for storage (games, paper towel rolls & some misc). Last year, we bought a large old ice saw and a set of used heavy horse harness. These might not be the most beautiful thing to some, but they will be cleaned up and be wall decorations one day. I didn't spend a lot on the harness and I really liked its character.

I have loved garage sailing or garage sales. I haven't been to one in awhile but I loved to have them also. One day I got this idea to take an old pair of jean legs and make an apron for the coins and cash. It worked out so well I was able to use it for about three years with a garage sale each year.

I remember one time going to a garage sale when I was little with my parents and siblings. I saw a beautiful doll that I wanted and my mom told me to go ask the lady how much it cost. She answered, "you can have it"!

I don't have a good garage sale story, but my Mom's is that she got a "fake" Christmas tree from a friend that was moving and I love it (we use it every year)!
