Radish Recipes?
I knew that radishes were used as a cooking spice in early medieval England, in place of pepper, an exotic import beyond the means of average folk. And I have tried recreating a few early English stews , porridges and such that used radish in that way. I generally eat my radishes fresh, or occasionally pickle or ferment a surplus though. But I just came across this recipe for radish soup. Sounds pretty good, and since radishes are so easy to grow, it has me wondering how else you can use them. Any one else have radish recipes?

@MaryRowe This recipe only uses 4 ingredients (plus salt) and if you are also growing cucumbers, you are 1/2 way there!
Ingredients
1 English cucumber thinly sliced
20 radishes trimmed and thinly sliced
1/2 cup chives, chopped
Place all in bowl, mix, then add
3/4 cup sour cream or yogurt
salt to taste

I like just small radishes with good butter and some fancy salt.
Have heard that they roast really well, too.

Thank you! I was wondering if there was any good recipes for radishes (although mine are like 3 months old and have decided to flower???)

When I was doing keto I ate a lot of cooked radishes. They cook up mild and tender, and they're very low carb. One time I subbed them for potatoes in a pot of ham and green beans. (Just curious, is ham, green beans, and potatoes a Pennsylvania thing?) I know I've seen them in keto versions of Zuppa Toscana( the Olive Garden version), but I don't remember if I tried it myself.

Just found this recipe for Radish Kimchi on Mother Earth News site.

I've never cooked radishes before but had them recently. I liked them but my husband who hates turnips thought that they tasted just like turnips to him. I just steamed them and then rolled them in herb butter.

Kimchi made with Korean radishes is amazing. Seeds are available from Baker Creek.
I haven't tried making kimchi or sauerkraut from more common types of radishes, but I am sure it could be done by tinkering with the recipes. Korean radishes are mild tasting, so when using other types you probably want to reduce the radish/cabbage ratio.

My favorite sandwich in high school was cream cheese with sliced radishes. Simple but delicious. That soup looks amazing! I love radishes.

I recently bought some Japanese turnips that looked and tasted like really mellow radishes. No spice. One of my top 5 favorite veggies now. They didn't make it as far as a cooking pot. Unfortunately they didn't go to seed. Apparently beets can be put in the fridge along with the soil for two weeks and then replanted to go to seed so I'll try that next crop with these and hopefully it works. Getting veggie plants to go to seed is often a challenge near the equator!

Mostly I have only used red radishes in salads. I know that daikon radishes are frequently used in cooked dishes, but I have only had things like that in restaurants. Thanks for the recipes and some new possibilities for using radishes.

Here are two non- recipe recipes I loved.

Decided that I was not going to throw away another bowl of cut up radishes. They got dumped in the Italian marinade jar along with the zucchini and english cucumber. Mom wants them, asks for them and then never bothers to eat them. Tired of wasting the food.
