Our own little wilderness

Yes, the name suits the property well. It's wild and thoroughly overgrown.

But it has so much to offer and a lot of what I'd like to try/do/grow has already been started in some form or fashion. The house hasn't been taken care of well and not lived in the last few years. We're basically gutting it for the most part and starting over. The nice thing is we'll get to make it "ours" even more this way, it will just take a little longer until we can actually live in it.

A bit about the property, it's about 10 acres, that backs up to the Middle Tiger River. It has a small Cap Cod style cottage on it along with a few other buildings and still others in various states of disrepair. There is a well but we do have access to city water if we want it.

And now for what you've all been waiting for, the pictures.😊

These are all of the first half/part of the property. We haven't been able to get to the other half very easily because it's so over grown. But our little Craftsman lawn mower was finally taken out to our new place. And some mowing was done so I'll be able to get some pictures down by the water and of the open areas that have pecan trees planted here and there.

I'll try to get some more pictures tonight when we go over there again.

But as you can see lots of work to do, some already underway.😊

@JennyT Upstate South Carolina Love your "wilderness"! I see all kinds of possibilities!

The view from the glass sliding door should be awesome, Thanks for posting pictures!

@water2world Thank you. Yes, there are so many possibilities with this property. It's beyond exciting to see a dream I've had for more than two decades finally coming to fruition.

Yes, from that sliding door, after a little careful clearing/pruning we should be able to see the Blue Ridge Mountains. At the very least in the fall and winter when the leaves are off the trees.😁

You certainly have a pretty place. I bet you feel like you can breathe!

I see that you either have lilies or irises in your second side picture. I wonder what other plant treasures you might find hidden?

Is the lower level something that can be made livable or will that space be used for something else? It gives the house a bit of a unique feature.

It will be nice to see your place again (before/after) once you've done some of the fixer upping!

@JennyT Upstate South Carolina What an exciting property you have found! I'd be just beside myself trying to identify all the new plants. Are there grape vines? I'm not familiar with the appearance of wild grapes but I see some leaves that might be grapes.

I'm looking forward to all the progress pics.

@LaurieLovesLearning It's a unfinished walk out basement. But we're not sure what we will do with it just yet. I love that it's all open down there at the moment. We'll see if we need it to become something after we've been there awhile.

@torey There are so many plants I'm not familiar with. Same with the trees, species of cedar or pine maybe that I've not seen before. it's in a different growing zone too. Yes, there are grape vines all over the place too. We saw onion and garlic blossoms when we were walking the other day. Along the driveway there are blackberry bushes and another variety I'm waiting to see what kind when it fruits. Supposedly there are fruit trees that were planted in the last few years hidden somewhere we are trying to find. I'm trying to make sure no one cuts/trims anything before I can look at it.

@RustBeltCowgirl My eldest's' daughter has her birthday this Saturday. And I think she's wanting to spend the night out there in the tent. Because there are several people around us who have at least 10 acres there is wildlife all over. So if we do that will be quite the experience.
