    Very thought provoking article. Like most people that belong to this community, it is reassuring that we enjoy and thrive on self-sufficiency! It gives us a step forward when these types of situations become more and more common! I used to tell my children that their mom could live off the land, unlike most people in our society! As adults, they finally believe me and realize the need for those skills!

    Great article. Thank you for sharing it. Thankfully my husband and I would be ok for the most part. We live off grid and always try to keep a supply of necessary items on hand.

    I try to make sure my family, friends, coworkers and so on all understand this as well.

    It amazes me how many folks don't. We had a heavy snowstorm a couple years ago. Some folks were snowed in for two weeks. I work at the only grocery store in our village. Folks calling in saying they couldn't get out and needed baby formula, expecting us to deliver some. They couldn't grasp the concept if they couldn't get out we couldn't get in either.

    During the beginning of covid we had folks driving 2 hours and more to come buy up our stuff or find things they no longer had in the city and furious if we were out or limited how much they could buy to take back.

    In Alaska there are many things that can shut us down. I just can't understand how so many can live in blind denial of how important it is to keep a goid stock of things you need.

    I appreciated his matter of fact demeanor in the article. He wasn't being overly critical or boo-hooing. But instead he gave realistic examples and not a movie type of unreality.

    This is something I've thought about now and again. Something I've wanted to be able to do for my family for a long time, prepare for "just in case". Covid brought in front and center.

    Now that we've been able to purchase some property I'm looking forward to figuring out how to do that in "my neck of the woods". And the best part is that my husband is on board now too and even a little bit excited as well.😊

    I will never understand how people can sleep at night without even having a week's supply of basic necessities in the house. Even a small city apartment should easily be able to hold that much.

    Urban people especially take it for granted that they can buy anything they want, when they want it, in or out of season. Perhaps COVID taught them something, but history suggests that people forget very quickly when an emergency is over.

    Yep, seems like most have already forgotten. I think that it's all in the "indoctrination" that our society has adopted. Yeah, right; the government will provide.
