Yesterday, @torey and I were discussing how herbal remedies were most often given infused in wine, or brewed into beers in the middle ages and the ancient world. Water was often bad, and teas were likely developed as a way to make water safe to drink. Distillation came much later, through the Arab culture. But, wines, meads and beers were considered essential for life and good for health. Here is a great video on making a spiced wine that was popular in ancient Rome - great cooking teacher who really gets into history, btw.

    Awesome! I quite often make mulled wine at Xmas but this is a really good idea. You could use this as a base for a sangria, too, I think, depending on the spices you put in it.
