PLANTING COVER CROPS IN THE HOME GARDEN

Great article. Our spring is coming quickly, but I'm going to include cover crops next fall.

What I would like to do on my next property is to do a rotation - plant a couple of acres of garden space over with cover crops in the fall, then graze goats on it, followed by chickens the next year. Then, it becomes garden space again for a year, repeat. Alternate that on two similar sized areas, so the crops grow where the critters were the year before and the critters graze where the crops were the year before. I'll let guineas pretty much free range for pest control.

My brother sent me the link to this video about the Maya Milpa Cycle. They sustainably farm in the forest. They rotate crops, too.

I am planning on growing red clover and Buckwheat as cover crops with the benefit of being able to harvest some of it for food & tea. 😊

I have never felt comfortable using a cover crop but I know its important.
I'll give it another try.
