Herbs for Hair Growth
I wanted to ask what herbs help with hair growth in general and also what helps thicken facial hair (I want my beard to be thicker so I can actually grow it out lol).

@Cornelius No guarantees, but I have read that aloe vera is one of the best hair growth home remedies. Take 2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel and 3 tablespoons of olive oil in a bowl and mix well.
Use this mixture to massage your scalp for 10 minutes.
Leave it on for another 30 minutes and then wash your scalp with a mild shampoo.
My uncle use to make a shampoo with mink oil---I witnessed my grandmother and aunts grow hair, lots of hair!!! Breck Shampoo talked to him about purchasing his methods, but alas, he kept it to himself and then passed away. I could sure use some now!! lol

@water2world He would have scared away any cats that came near him. Haha! Cats hate the smell of mink.
What a thing that would be to test that on on of those naked cats. Can you imagine? Oops, I said that out loud. 🤭

@Cornelius My grandmother used to rub a sliced onion into the skin. Well onion juice. It worked, but the smell...
i prefer stinging nettle roots infusion or birch sap. Or apple vinegar. Vinegar is very useful for the skin of the scalp.

I think the best plan is just to eat plenty of meat and natural fats. Maybe take a zinc supplement. Also, you might try doing 5 minutes or so of high intensity exercise every two hours to keep HGH and testosterone at peak levels.
-
I have heard that rosemary works well by stimulating the hair follicle.
-
@Cornelius I’ve had a rummage around in my herbal books and it seems Rosemary and Sage essential oil mixed with a carrier oil helps with hair loss and growth. You could also add Evening Primrose to that and it can be taken internally as well. Take some before and after photos and let us know how you get on.🙂

One caveat on herbs... herbs that have estrogen-like properties will make women's hair thicker and more full. They will do the opposite for men's facial hair. So, double check that before using them.
-
I've had luck adding a spoon or two of ground flax seed to my morning yogurt. This does contain estrogen-like properties.

Thank you all so much!
@judsoncarroll4 Do you have any exercises that you recommend? I tried looking up estrogen foods and food that boost testosterone and I found this article: https://draxe.com/nutrition/foods-that-boost-testosterone/ . Is flaxseed bad or good for this? (I take a flaxseed oil supplement daily as I do not eat a lot of fish to get omega 3's).
@water2world It is a shame he didn't share his recipe!

Squats and deadlifts, work the lower primarily. Chest and shoulder exercises - pushups, bench-press and overhead press are also great, but secondary. Meat and fish - wild is better.
-
Yes it is a shame! I have heard many in our family (9 siblings, and their children) saying they wished they had some of his mink shampoo!
-
@judsoncarroll4 Thank you so much!

Horsetail is good for strengthening the hair. You can make an infused apple cider vinegar and take that internally by the tablespoon and/or use it as a hair rinse. It could be the base for a salad dressing, too. You could make a horsetail infused oil and give yourself hot oil treatments.
-
@Cornelius I read just the other day that nettle tea encourages hair growth. Think it may have come from Rosemary de la Floret. Good luck with your choices on “follicular profusion”😁🧔🏻👨🏻🦳!
This is a well known Australian gardening guru, Costa Georgiadis. Of Greek heritage. That might be his secret!

@JodieDownUnder I think that is where you heard it. I remember telling my daughter this...and she is the one brave enough to go pick the nettles! Her hair thick & is long enough that it is past her bottom. She is trying to figure out ways to make it stay healthy & grow longer.
-
I have heard that using oils infused with nettles and/or horsetail are good for hair growth. I have also heard that fern roots infused in apple cider vinegar is good to rinse your hair with after washing.
-
Thank you all so much! Now I just need to find some nettles and horsetail.
@JodieDownUnder I don't think I would ever grow my beard that long (assuming I can get a full beard to begin with lol).
-
I came across this website while doing a bit of research into something else. Its not beard specific but some of the suggestions might help.

@torey Thank you so much!

@torey Thank you for this article. I had an enquiry about measures against hair loss. This article was very helpful. It expanded my knowledge as well.

Wow. I’ll be sharing these ideas with my sis as her hair is thinning. Cool.
