Our local news broadcast does a tech segment every so often and today's was featuring a battery powered generator system. The guy that does the segment is pretty reliable and doesn't endorse products unless he has tried them and can personally recommend them.

So this grabbed my attention. This company makes battery powered tools including lawn mowers and snowblowers and have now developed a battery powered charging station that works like a generator. It charges from AC power but you can get an adaptor to go with it which allows you connect to solar panels.

One of the benefits of this unit is, unlike fossil fuel generators, it can safely be used indoors.

While I was searching I came across this company that has a similar unit but also can be hooked up to a wind generator as well as solar panels for recharging.
